California teen Braun Levi is killed by suspected drunk driver, community mourns

A Southern California high school student was killed Sunday after a suspected drunk driver hit him, according to police.

The Manhattan Beach Police Department said officers arrested Jenia Belt, 33, at 12:46 a.m. Sunday after finding a man lying on the street next to the car. According to Fox 11, the victim was identified as Braun Levi, an 18-year-old student at Loyola High School, just one month away from graduation. He had planned to attend the University of Virginia after graduation.

The police were holding a belt without bail.

Levi, a senior at Loyola High School, will graduate in June. He was a four-year college starter on the high school tennis team and is considered “one of the most accomplished student-athletes in the history of the program,” according to a social media post from the Catholic Jesuit School.

In addition to participating in the tennis team, high school students are also the ultimate captain, student union members, volleyball team managers, etc.

Loyola High School Track and Field Department pays tribute to Levi in ​​a social media post on Sunday.

"We are heartbroken to share the news about Braun Levi, a Loyola High School student," the school's athletic department wrote. "His lovely personality, infectious smile and unlimited energy make him a beloved member of the Loyola community. He is a real person, with others, and we will miss him so much. We love you, Braun."

Braun’s death comes as his parents recently lost their homes in the Palisades fire, according to the Los Angeles Times.

After Braun’s friend passed away, his Instagram page bathed with moving messages.

One person wrote: "Anyone knows how lucky you are. You have never met a stranger and has an impact on everyone you meet. I will be as big as you every day.

Loyola High School principal Jamal Adams highly praised Braun in a message to staff and students on Sunday.

Adams wrote: “Braun is a bright presence in our Loyola family…bringing light, joy and inspiration to everyone he touched.”

A prayer vigil was held Sunday night in honor of Braun.
