California principal warns school board of directors about aid citing "anti-Semitic metaphor"

A California County principal advised that members of the Pajaro Valley Unified School District (PVUSD) school board should bring legal representation to the meeting, attend ethics classes and conduct conflict resolution training, a video of members appearing at a recent controversial meeting.

"My office has received many questions and concerns about behavior and speech in recent months at the PVUSD board meeting. My own observations have confirmed the effectiveness of some of these issues," wrote Dr. Farris Sabbah, Dean of the Santa Cruz County School, in an April 23 letter to PVUSD Board Chairman Olivia Flores and other members.

"In particular, the comments made by the trustee at the board meeting on April 16, 2025 seem to have attracted my comments," he said in a letter obtained by the North American Academy of Values.

The PVUSD School Board held a meeting to discuss the contract with the renewal of ethnic studies courses with Cultural Responsive Education (CRE). Jewish community members expressed concerns about the CRE curriculum by the organization's founder, Allyson Tintangco-cubales, and wrote a draft Ethnic Studies that was rejected by the California School Board for concerns about anti-Semitism.

Although the state rejects Tintiangco-cubales’ ethnic studies courses, the PVUSD board intends to contract with the CRE to draft its courses on race studies.

After members of the Jewish community raised objections to the CRE course, multiple board members engaged in rhetoric, using the "anti-Semitism" described by Sabbah's letter.

At the April 16 meeting, board member Joy Flynn used his time to discuss the "economic power" of the Jews.

"This is something I found, or I have a lack of recognition of the economic power of the Jewish community in history, blacks and browns," Flynn said.

Board member Gabriel Medina said: "I won't see you guys in protest against immigration protests. I don't see where you are now taken. I don't advocate that you see you advocate that you come back to Abrego Garcia or Mahmoud Khalil and you can only bring you in a meeting, you can only tell you, you can tell you the story, so you can tell them, we guess what they are, but they guess what they are, but what they are, what they are, what they are, what they are, what they are, what they are, what they are, what they are, what they are, what they are, what they are, what they are, what they are, what they are, what they are, what they are, what they are, what they are, what they are, what they are, what they are, what they are, what they are, what they are, what they are, what they are, what they are, what they are, what they are, what they are, what they are?

Sabbah's letter proposed that the board may have violated the California Transparency Act, the Ralph Brown Act, "taking or attempting to take action on matters not listed correctly" and recommended that the board have legal counsel present at future meetings. He also advised the board to participate in the "Governance, Ethics and Educational Law" courses and conflict resolution after combat meetings.

"Anti-Semitic rhetoric has no place in PVUSD, at least the trustees are responsible for all who are responsible for safeguarding student rights, ensuring non-discrimination and promoting a safe, inclusive educational environment," Sabbah wrote.

When asked to comment, Medina directed Fox News Digital to an alternative post where he answered Sabbah's letter.

"Comments by members of the Framework Committee are to invoke 'anti-Semitic' without directly naming or analyzing comments that reduce a complex and painful debate to vague allegations. This strategy makes the voice chill, especially when the trustees of the power system against the challenge of color. As Professor Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor's scope, people often initiate the forces, which is allowing action to liberalism, which is permitted, which is allowed, which is not challenged. We must ask: Whose discomfort is centered when our boards address racial inequality?" Medina wrote in an April 23 post. He wrote that the comments at the school board meeting were directed at “a group of people – many of whom were aligned with far-right groups.”

PVUSD Director Dr. Heather Contreras told Fox News Digital that the legal agent will be present at the next school board meeting and decide whether to attend the legal counsel at a future meeting. She said her area is firmly opposed to anti-Semitism.

"PVUSD stands firmly against all forms of racism, antisemitis, and hate. We are aware of concerns raised regarding recent remarks attributed to some members of the Board of Trustees, and we want to be clear about the values that guide our district. PVUSD is committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all students, families, educators, and community members—regardless of background, race, religion, or identity. We remain focused on the principles of fairness, dignity and mutual respect in everything we do.

When asked to comment, Board Chairman Flores and Flynn, trustee, forwarded Fox News Digital to Dr. Contreras' statement.
