California man accused of threatening Trump's president-elect

A federal grand jury sued a San Bernardino County man Tuesday for allegedly threatening to assassinate then-President-elect Donald Trump won his second term in November at the Oval Office.

Thomas Eugene Streavel, 73, of the Yucca Valley, has been charged with three threats to the president-elect, the U.S. Department of Justice said.

Strave was arrested Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Riverside, California, the day after his arrest.

"This defendant is accused of threatening the life of our president - a man who has survived two attempts to make mistakes," said Attorney General Pam Bondi. "The Justice Department takes these threats with the greatest seriousness and will prosecute the crime to the greatest extent of the law."

According to the indictment, Streavel posted several messages on Facebook that threatened Trump before and after the November 5, 2024 election.

The indictment alleges that Streavel first posted a message to his friends that it was "the best day to brag" referring to Trump, adding that he wanted to be the trigger.

He continued to post blasphemous posts on November 20, November 25 and November 29 about Trump's death.

At the time of charge, the indictment focuses on three specific positions, published on November 12, November 19 and November 28.

The second allegation is based on a threat allegedly posed by Streavel on November 19.

"Let me put a bullet between the ears of the president-elect, and it immediately became great again in the United States," the indictment said. "This is my purpose in life. Kill the worthless mother F---."

The third allegation is based on a Nov. 28 post on Streavel on suspicion of Facebook.

"I am in the successful assassination of your president-elect, which will immediately become great for the good of our nation," Streve said. "I would be happy to put my left nut into the man who puts the bullet between his ears. My life's mission is to kill the worthless s ---- My mission begins tonight, so look at your own Trump, you are a dead mother, a dead mother, and I am your assassin.'God bless America.

"The type of speech and threat caused by the defendant is similar to the attempts that led to the president's life," said U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli. "In places where there is no political violence or threat of violence in the United States. We will not hesitate to arrest and charge other people who have committed similar crimes."

Streve pleaded not guilty to all three charges and he should return to court on July 28, 2025.

A federal magistrate ordered him to be released on a $10,000 bond.

If convicted, each offence could be sentenced to up to five years in federal prison.
