Thirty-five House Democrats are blaming the Biden administration’s 11-hour exemption, which sets a road for California to ban refueling cars in 2035.
A Republican resolution aimed at abolishing the Biden-Era Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) passed Thursday morning by 246 to 164.
It is worth noting that two California House Democrats were among the 35 people who voted to lift their state’s clean energy exemption - representing Lou Correa and George Whitesides.
Other Democrats in that number include representative Bennie Thompson, D-Miss. , Pat Ryan, DN.Y. , Tom Suozzi, Dn.Y. , Jared Moskowitz, D-Fla.

Meanwhile, Republican leaders cheered for the adoption of the resolution.
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-la. "California's immunity" said “This radical measure prohibits the sale of gasoline-powered vehicles, forcing Americans to generate electricity and take away consumer choices."
“Americans should choose what best suits their needs and family needs, not government needs,” Scalis told Fox News digits.
House majority whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn).
“House Republicans are correcting another mistake in the Biden administration and returning to basic freedoms to choose whatever car you want to the American people,” Emmer told Fox News Digital.

Under the Congressional Review Act, disapproving resolutions allow lawmakers a mechanism to oppose unilateral rules set by federal agencies.
Biden's EPA Approve exemption In December 2024, California was more than a month before he left the office, which would make it possible for the state to phase out new gasoline-powered vehicle sales by 2035.
Despite concerns earlier in the year that major automakers raised concerns about the feasibility of the California target, the exemption was exempted — but state officials who pushed the program insisted that climate change was crucial.

At the time, the Biden administration believed that the exemption was an order, not a regulatory rule, which meant it would not be subject to Congress scrutiny.

The Trump administration has asked Congress to review the exemptions in late February, paving the way for potential abolition under the Republican-controlled House and Senate.
