Caleb Plant loses Armando Resendiz, upsets Charlo plan

This is the last result expected, as the local Kaleb factory in Ashland City returned to the arena later this year with a potential blockbuster round against Jermall Charlo.

Plant found himself in the wrong side of the way he could potentially be upset this year, losing his career for the third time in the main event of PBC’s Battle Card on May 31.

The judge's scorecard reads 115-113 of the plants, and Resendiz's scorecard is 116-112, 116-112.

“I think it’s very close, sometimes in a close fight, it’s swinging in another way,” Plant later said in the ring. "I feel like I'm under control enough, using the whole ring, using the poke, but the judge (saw) in another way, so what should you do."

The factory started fighting, working behind the poke while connecting to Resendiz's body. But as the battle progressed, the recovery became more comfortable, competing in the battle while consistently pushing him towards effective power.

Resendiz won the final six rounds in two of the three judges’ scorecards to ensure it turned out to be a close decision, although Resendiz seemed to separate himself from the former world champion factory.

“It’s not overbearing pressure,” the factory said. “He grabbed me with a nice one, which was nice, but other than that, nothing really hurts me or confuses me.

Plant had previously said the plan was to throw a wrench in a game that Jermall Charlo faces fans expect if each of them had a place in Las Vegas, but after Charlo defeated Thomas Lamanna, Plant's failure appears to throw a wrench in any previously held plans.

"I just went back to my team... with my daughter. My son was on the way and we would regroup and we would come back."

The loss of plants is the harvest of Resendiz, and despite the harsh decisions made on the card, there is no doubt after hearing the last bell sound.

"I'm not really worried because I left it all to God," Resendiz said. "I know I'm going to win, I'm not worried at all. I know it's a tough battle; it's a great battle...I'm ready to fight anyone who wants to fight anyone who wants."

This is his second defeat in three last battles, defeating Trevor McCumby in September last September after a tough unanimous decision against unbeaten David Benavidez in 2023. In 2021, Plant previously suffered the first career loss from Canelo Alvarez in the undoubted middleweight title battle.
