Bulova documentary focus on social initiatives held in Cannes

When New York Observer Bulova celebrates its 150th anniversary, managing director Michael Benavente can point to many milestones and achievements the brand can be proud of, but one stands out.

Speech below type During the screening of Michael Culyba's documentary "America's Talent: 150 Years of Bulova," Benavente told audiences at the Cannes Film Festival Sunday that it had the biggest emotional impact on him and the other audiences he chatted with, which was conducted with the work of Continuing Watcher, which is the company's work of corporate operating operating support supports.

The nonprofit opens a tuition-free school that allows disabled veterans to learn watchmaking skills and provides them with dedicated work placements. In the movie, some of these homeless veterans explain how it restores their sense of self-worth and provides them with means to make a living despite their physical or mental challenges. For some, this is actually a lifeguard because they have been thinking about suicide.

Benavente explained that the Veterans Tabulation Initiative was founded by Sam Cannan, a SWAT team sniper in Baltimore.

"When he had an active shooter, he was hit by a three-story building, and by God's grace, there was a sunshade that broke his fall. But immediately he was disabled by the Baltimore Police Department." After attending the Joseph Bulova School of Watchmaking, Cannan went on to "have a very illustrious career as a watchmaker. He goes to live in Switzerland for many years, and this project that you saw today is really a work of love for him to give back, because he was in the same place as these guys. So you can see he's very emotional and he's super password about it and he's a great guy, and so we're just happy to be able to be with him and support,” Benavente said.

The company supports other nonprofit programs covered in the film include the Latin Grammy Awards; the Masters Care Foundation, co-founded by singer Marc Anthony; and the Family Foundation, co-founded by singer-songwriter Nile Rodgers. Anthony and Rodgers are both brand ambassadors for Bulova, designed the watches for the company and excelled in the film. Anthony's wife, Nadia Ferreira, is a Paraguay model and social influencer, also participated in the screening of the Cannes Film Festival.

The film is divided into theme chapters rather than following a series of milestones in chronological order, and what stands out in Culyba is Bulova's impact on women's rights. For example, in the 1970s, the company launched a series of groundbreaking advertisements to support equal pay for women.

“I would say it was another exciting part I found when I made the movie,” Kaliba said. “I don’t have to realize that they were advertising for the Equal Rights Amendment, when the ads were so brave and bold to really take a social and political stand.”

“At the time, Bulava did accept women’s rights, and it was a message that I think a lot of people, obviously and men can still feel through the brand today, and it still exists.”
