yes Brett Whip This year's Mark - The young (ISH) Mets player finally took the opportunity in the major leagues and changed the trajectory of his career?
perhaps. Obviously, Buddy can show more. But on a night like Saturday, it is thought that a man who has MLB hitters every season since 2022 might be a bigger deal.
At Citi Field, Baty club had two home runs, basically the Mets offense throughout – and that was the success part anyway. He lost 6-5 to the Cubs, driving in all five games, creating his own career for RBI in his second career multiplayer game. The Mets scored 10-1, with the runners in the scoring position, failing to cash in on any traffic they created, but Barty has kept the nationwide to keep them close.
"He's been killing it since he's back," said teammates. Tylor Megillwho knows one or two things that have reappeared from minors. "I mean, the biggest thing you can do is not about it. Something like this (was sent) happens. Take it like a man, go there, work, keep working. Don't lose confidence, because at some point, you'll back up. You'll help this team.
“He’s been a completely different player since he’s back…he’s really hitting the ball well.”
“He didn’t miss the fastball,” the manager added Carlos Mendoza. “I feel like when he’s in trouble, he’s tainting them…even if, I think, breaking the ball in the strike zone, he’s pounding them.
On May 5, the minor recalled Baty. He has been 4-4 in three home runs in the last two games. One of his home runs Saturday night was right center and the other was the outfield opposite him.
Mendoza noted that Baty initially lost his place this season due to the roster tightening. But Buddy was knocked down with a .597 OPS hit.204. These are the number of vulnerable players, even as Baty strives to add versatility to his skills. Mendoza regularly expresses confidence in Baty's defensive ability at third and second bases, and the Mets hope he learns it so he can be more versatile.
"He has a chance, he knows he belongs to the major leagues," Mendoza said. "He is a very good major league player. He has the skills. He has the tools, and we see... so I think it's just his confidence in knowing he belongs here."
After Saturday’s game, Buddy talked about how he challenged himself in a batting cage, looking at different pitch types, trying to increase his heart speed there to help simulate game conditions. He would rather immerse himself in the technical aspects of hitting than bring heavy meaning into a game.
Still, after a big night like Saturday, it must be hard not to consider the way he fits in the roster, right?
"No, until all of you (reporters) come up," Buddy replied.
Maybe he didn't see a game as a referendum on the status of his career. Perhaps this prospect will help him find his own path in his profession. But one night like Saturday, a previous round pick still wants to solidify its Mets, which is a very high bar.
The Metropolis could have continued from Baty many times. But they didn't. There was a time when observers wondered if Vientos would have a huge impact on the Mets, and he finally did it – the appearance of Vientos was one of their biggest stories in the 2024 season.
Can Buddy repeat this season? He has another chance now. His numbers are not mean. But nights like Saturday will bring attention to the Metropolitan and the rest of the baseball community.
His career has not been determined yet.
