Brazil Football Federation appeals President rejects Supreme Court

The Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) dismissed its President Ednaldo Rodrigues to the Supreme Court on Friday, the day after the judge voided his employment contract for alleged forgery.

Rodrigues' sack is a new blow to Brazilian football, which has been looking to rebound from a series of setbacks, and Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti is coming, the new handler for the national team.

A Rio de Janeiro court said Thursday that one of the signers of his 2025 contract was mentally unsuitable, meaning there was a "possible forgery."

The court ruled that the contract with the CBF was invalid and therefore invalid and dismissed the entire Federal Board of Directors.

The CBF warned on Friday that the move could lead to international sanctions on Selecao, "including excluding international sports competitions."

It called the ruling a "direct insult" to the constitutional order and asked the Supreme Court to suspend the ruling.

Federal Interim President Fernando Jose Sarney said Thursday that he would comply with the Rio court's ruling and held a new election on May 25, the day before Ancelotti's new job.

Rodrigues' attorney has denied Sarney's appointment as interim chief "illegal".

Rodrigues was the first black president of the CBF.

The 71-year-old has been temporarily suspended in 2023 after discovering a violation in the 2022 general election.

He was later restored in the order of the Supreme Court judge after FIFA threatened sanctions on Brazilian football allowed external interference in its affairs.

Rodrigues had been leading the negotiations and signed Ancelotti as coach at the time, when the bid collapsed.

Ancelotti was finally appointed to the job on Monday.

Rodrigues was unanimously re-elected in March.

But since then, he has been confused with the Brazilian cultural magazine Piaui, who claims he has gained support from the regional football federation by providing the president with a huge salary increase.

The CBF has always hoped that Landing Ancelotti is the most successful coach in European Cup history, which will help turn the pages during the bruises of Brazilian football, but is still defeating Argentina 4-1 in the World Cup qualifier in March.

The team's last coach, Dorival Junior, was fired.

Brazil, a record five-time World Cup champion, ranked fourth on the table on the South American rankings in next year's championships held in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
