Bono took place Friday night at the Cannes Film Festival to attend the world premiere of his new Apple documentary Bono: The Story of Surrender, where the U2 host received a seven-minute standing ovation after the screening.
Bono became emotional during the applause. As the applause began to fade, he opened his speech and promised to speak fluent French next year.
"I'm not French. I'm Irish. I'm not even a homemade person," Bono told the crowd. "You wrote this story. The Edge wrote this story. Adam (Clayton) and Larry (Murren Jr.) wrote this story. (Paul) McGuinness wrote this story."
Once, Bono saluted the audience, actor and director Sean Penn, who said, “If I were like in real tides, not in the movie, I wanted to be with Sean Penn.
The film directed by Andrew Dominik chronicles the U2 host’s single-person show, based on his famous memoir, Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story, and its ensuing tour. According to its log line, the Doctor “removed his challenge and sustained family, friends and faith back to the curtains, revealing his journey as a son, father, father, husband, activist and rock star. And the never-seen, never-seen, never-seen, never-seen, exclusive videos obtained from the Beacon Theater show, the film presents many worlds U2 songs that shape his life and scope and shape his life and field.
Bono has been no stranger to Cannes since the 1990s. U2 also premiered the band's concert film "U2 3D" during the midnight screening at the festival in 2007, before that, they performed iconic performances on the steps of the palace.
