Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan stabbed in 'attempted burglary' at home in Mumbai

Khan was stabbed six times as police searched for the suspect and is undergoing surgery.

Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was stabbed by an intruder at his home in Mumbai.

Khan, 54, was admitted to a hospital near Mumbai at around 3:30 am (22:00 GMT on Wednesday) with six injuries, two of which were larger than the others, news agency ANI said, citing the hospital director. The person is deeper, and the other is closer to the spine. Operations Officer.

Khan's public representative also confirmed the incident, calling it an "attempted burglary," adding that "everyone else in the family is fine."

Late on Thursday, senior police officer Gedam Dixit told Reuters the actor was out of danger.

"He (Khan) is receiving treatment... and is out of danger," Dixit said.

Police said a female employee at their home was also attacked and is receiving treatment.

Khan lives with his actress wife Kareena Kapoor-Khan and their two children in an apartment in Bandra, a suburb in western Mumbai.

Police are still looking for the suspect and are investigating the attack, news outlet NDTV reported.

Khan is one of the country's most profitable actors, having appeared in more than 70 films and TV series, some of which he also served as a producer. He is the son of former Indian cricket captain Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and actress Sharmila Tagore.

“Too unsafe”

Social media was flooded with messages of solidarity and prayers, including from fans, politicians and Khan's Bollywood colleagues.

"I was shocked and saddened to hear the news of the attack on Mr. Saif. I wish and pray for his speedy recovery and good health," actor Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao Jr (aka NTR Jr) posted on X.

Celebrities, opposition leaders and other public figures have also called for greater security.

"If these high-profile figures with... security are attacked in their homes, what happens to ordinary citizens?" Clyde Krasto, spokesman for Sharad Pawar's nationalist Congress party, said on social media .

Actor and film producer Pooja Bhatt has also called for greater police presence in the suburb, which is home to many people from the film industry.

"This city, especially the queen of suburbia, has never felt so unsafe before," she posted on X, using a popular description of the trendy area.
