Boise State's Spencer Danielson wins 5 years of deal after CFP

Boise State has completed a new contract for coach Spencer Danielson because he led the Broncos to the college football playoffs during his first full season as head coach, sources said Tuesday.

Sources said Danielsen has agreed to reach a five-year salary, which doubled his salary as his average price during the deal was $2.2 million.

Danielson led Boise State to a 12-2 record in 2024, including the Mountain Championship and the Carnival Bowl against Penn State.

He led Boise State to two mountain championships, including a transitional season after taking over in November 2023.

Danielson was 15-3 overall. He lost to UCLA in the 2024 regular season Los Angeles Bowl and Penn State in the CFP.

Danielson's deal is $2 million a year this season, up $100,000 in five years. In five years, the total agreement will eventually reach nearly $11 million. He is expected to be the second-highest coach in the western mountainous region, behind UNLV’s Dan Mullen, who will make $3.5 million this year. Utah State University's Bronco Mendenhall will make another $2 million next year.

This is a significant improvement compared to Danielson's original contract, which totaled $6.5 million in five years after he won the job, as it was temporary.

Danielson went from defensive coordinator to interim coach at Boise State after firing coach Andy Avalos. From there, Boise State won three games to end the regular season, which included a blowout against UNLV in the Mountain Championship.

Boise State athletic director Jeramiah Dickey saw the team’s reaction to Danielson and hired him as a full-time coach. Boise State puts that momentum in the playoffs, including the No. 3 seed and goodbye. Boise State registered a victory over Washington State, winning the mountain championship twice last year.

Boise State was unbeaten in the conference game behind No. 6 star guard Ashton Jeanty, the NFL draft. Danielson's biggest recruiting victory is Heisman Trophy finalist, and his stay in Jeanty in 2024 was the biggest recruiting victory.

Boise State has maintained a strong retention player since the playoff run since the end of the 2024 season. The school also expressed a significant commitment to coordinating employee salaries and employee salaries pools.

Danielson was named West of the Year in 2024 and has won finalist for multiple national coaching honors. He worked as a graduate assistant at Boise State in 2017.
