Body Cam Video Shows Newark Mayor Ras Baraka on Ice Rink

DHS released a body cam video on Saturday showing moments for federal officials Arrested Mayor of Newark, New Jersey, in immigration and customs law enforcement agencies.

DHS blurs the faces seen on the camera.

Newark Mayor Ras Baraka is detained for suspected entry and stay Delaney Concert Hall Property illegal Friday. He was released for several hours, then released and charged with breaking in.

Department of Homeland Security officials say

In a press release, the Department of Homeland Security accused members of Congress of rushing into the door and breaking into the facility illegally.

Tricia McLaughlin, assistant secretary of public affairs at the Department of Homeland Security, told CNN that they have obtained videos from members of Congress, including Bingbing officials.

"It's disgusting," she said.

She said an investigation is underway and more arrests may be made.

"No one lashed out at the ground from the ice. We didn't rush into this place. So, it's all a lie," Baraka said.

The mayor pushed back and said he was invited to the ice rink and stayed for more than an hour.

"I was allowed to go in. I didn't climb the fence. I didn't kick the door," Baraka said.

He claimed no one said a word to him when he was on the property, but the mayor ignored multiple warnings to remove him.

Baraka describes his arrest as humiliation, stress and frustration.

He said: "They decided to arrest me. They decided to violate me. They decided to humiliate me, put me on the cuffs, and tell the people to bring me to the ground. Thank God's Homeland Security Office for not doing this."

The mayor said he was treated with dignity and respect during his detention and he cooperated completely.

Rally held after arrest supports Mayor Ras Baraka

A rally outside Foley Square on Saturday was attended to show their support for Baraka.

"What happened to the mayor of Baraka yesterday is painful, and it is the reason for the action," Speaker Sienna Fontaine said.

"If they can do this with elected officials, then each of us is not safe," said supporter Sarah Birnbam.

Mayor's Opponents of the governor of New Jersey Come and defend.

Rep. Josh Gottheimer said: "The good news is that he's out. But the bad news is that there are still a lot of people who don't, and I think the point is that we all have to stand here together and keep fighting."

Baraka says he Will continue his struggle with the company that runs ice facilitiesclaiming the facility is dangerous and illegal.

"We haven't checked it correctly. We haven't participated. So we have to say it's dangerous," he said.

The Department of Homeland Security claims that the facility’s permit is valid and cleared.
