Birdman walks on the Cannes red carpet at the premiere of "Die, My Love"

The world premiere of "Death, My Love" by Robert Pattinson and Jennifer Lawrence, a WTF red carpet moment when a man in a giant vulture appeared on one of the most famous runways in a cinema. The appearance of Birdman has raised questions among festival participants.

Cannes Film Festival organizers told type The Birdman is actually a character from Raphael Quenard's documentary I Love Peru, which premiered in the festival's Cannes Classics section. "After a difficult period, Raphaël Quenard gave up on everyone around him and hit him with disturbing vision and flew to Peru. In this spiritual pursuit, he was accompanied by his friend Hugo David."

In Peruvian culture, vultures are considered as connections between heaven and earth.

Considering the Cannes red carpet is known for being very strict, festival attendees were surprised to see the costume stunts allowed. Before the 2025 festival begins, Cannes organizers announced that the event will ban nudity and "too much" clothing. Long trains and other properties that may clog carpets are no longer allowed.

Cannes issued a statement on Monday, May 12, detailing its new red carpet rules. The festival says the red carpet changes are in line with the "organizational framework" of Cannes Film Festival and French law.

"This year, the Cannes Film Festival has made clear in its charter some of the long-standing rules. The purpose is not to regulate the clothing itself based on the institutional framework of the event and the institutional framework of French law, but to prohibit the entire exposure of the red carpet."

Cannes added, “The right reserves the right to refuse to contact individuals who may hinder other guests’ movement or complicate seating arrangements in the screening room.”

Halle Berry, who served in this year's Cannes competition jury, revealed in a press conference that she had to make last-minute fashion changes due to the new rules.

"I wore a great outfit tonight because it was too big, because it was too big, because it was too big, because it was too big," Berry said of her opening party tonight. "I won't break the rules. The naked part could be a good rule, too."
