Bills fans raise more than $48,000 for charity supported by Mark Andrews after playoff loss

Buffalo Bills fans have been rooting for Mark Andrews after he lost the ball in the AFC playoff game on Sunday.

As of Tuesday evening, a GoFundMe page dedicated to supporting the Baltimore Ravens' chosen juvenile diabetes charity had raised more than $48,000. The total was well above the original goal of $5,000.

Funds from the event will be donated to Breakthrough TD1, a juvenile diabetes research and advocacy organization. Andrews, who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes as a child, has long supported the charity (formerly JDRF). He has served as a Breakthrough TD1 youth ambassador in the past.

The Ravens scored a late touchdown against the Bills in the AFC Divisional Round on Sunday night and converted a potentially game-tying 2-point conversion with 93 seconds left. Lamar Jackson found a wide-open Andrews at the goal line, but Andrews lost control after the ball hit his hands.

His pass failed and the Ravens ultimately lost the game. The win puts the Bills into the AFC Championship Game, where they will face the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

This was one of the worst games of Andrews' career. The three-time Pro Bowler and one of the best players of his generation on the Ravens also dropped a fumble late in the first half and dropped one in Bills territory — which Buffalo later converted for the shot. It was his first turnover since Week 6 of the regular season, extremely rare for the often reliable tight end.

Andrews did not speak to reporters after the game, and he skipped Monday's locker room media session.

"No one has more heart, cares more and fights more than Mark," Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said. "Without Mark, we wouldn't be here. That's what you say to him.

"Just like anything else. Destiny is a decision you make. Decisions are how you deal with what happens in your life. Mark will handle it very well as usual because he is a man of high character. He is a strong man Man. He's a guy that I'm proud of, just like I'm proud of all of them."

While this mistake is certainly still with Andrews and will be for quite some time, Bill Mafia is at least trying to turn it into a small positive for him.
