Bill Belichick

Former Patriots coach Bill Belichick says he's recently Interview on "CBS Sunday Morning" The relationship between him and his girlfriend, 24-year-old Jordon Hudson, created a "false narrative."

Belichick, 73, now head coach at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, sat down with CBS News' Tony Dokoupil before releasing his new book The Art of Winning, but many commentators online focused on a glimpse of his relationship with Hudson.

"Before being interviewed, I clearly spoke with the public relations staff at Simon & Schuster that any promotional interview I attended would agree to focus only on the content of the book," Berichick said in a statement released Wednesday.

"Unfortunately, this expectation was not fulfilled in the interview. I was surprised when irrelevant topics were introduced and I repeatedly told reporter Tony Dokoupil and the producer who would rather keep the conversation in the book," the statement continued. "This is after a few times, Jordon shared his personal and professional relationship with me, stepping in and reiterating that to help reinvest the discussion."

A CBS press spokesman replied: "When we agreed to talk to Mr. Belichick, it was an extensive interview. There were no prerequisites or limitations in this conversation. His publisher repeatedly confirmed this before and after the interview."

Belichick's statement follows the interview section posted on social media The censorship generated His relationship.

Belichick and Dokoupil discuss Hudson in the eight-minute section of "Sunday Morning," a football legend described it as his "creative muse" in his forthcoming book that lasted about one minute and 30 seconds.

Dockpoel said in the recorded voiceover that Hudson was a "constant existence" in the interview. He asked Berichick: "You have Jordan over there. Everyone in the world seems to be following this relationship. They have opinions about your private life. It has nothing to do with them, but they are invested.

"I never worry too much about other people's ideas," replied Berichick. "Just try to do what I'm best for me and the right thing."

When Belichick was asked how the two of them met, Hudson said: "It's not about this."

Berichick defended Hudson in a statement Wednesday.

"She didn't deflect any specific questions or topics, but was just doing her job to make sure the interviews were on track. Some editing seemed to avoid the question of how we could meet, but we were open to the fact that Jordan and I met on a flight to Palm Beach in 2021."

"The last eight-minute section did not reflect the 35-minute productive 35-minute conversation we had, which covered a wide range of topics related to my career. Instead, it proposed selectively edited clips and stills from a few minutes of interviews to suggest a false narrative - Jordon's attempt to control the conversation - which is totally incorrect."

Inkwell Management, a literary agent for Belichick, said in another statement Tuesday that the segments resulted in "a series of hostile social media posts about his personal life."

"Bill wrote a book about the authoritative and entertaining nature of success, which should be judged by its content, not the clicks generated by the segment," Inkwell Management said.

Belichick's book The Art of Winning is scheduled to be released on May 6.
