Former President Joe Biden admitted in a newly leaked audio interview with special counsel Robert Hur that he may keep confidential documents related to Afghanistan after he leaves the vice president's "descendants".
Biden first said he doesn't remember when Hur asked about the document, he told him it was found in his Lake House library.
Biden replied: "I don't know I know, he has this document, but it's not something I want to stop thinking about."
Hull noted that both Bob Woodward and Jules Witcover wrote documents about him in their books, asking if he wanted to hang it in the book because it might be the subject of a report or "history."

He said: "I think I want to stick with it for the purposes of future generations. I mean, this is my position in Afghanistan. From a historical perspective, I have always believed that there are certain perspectives in history, certain points in world history, basic things have changed using technology."
“So, I think there are a lot of things that fundamentally change the way the international community works, and they have a lot of connections to technology.”
After the 80-year-old continued on the subject for a while, Hur interrupted him back to the subject of the document.
Biden replied: "No, sorry, that's why I want it." "It has nothing to do with Afghanistan."
Then, a former president's lawyer interrupted Hur, saying: "For a clear record, he wanted to avoid "entering into the speculative realm," mentioning Biden first answered questions about the documents, saying he didn't remember why he had.
At that time, Hur replied, “I think we should take a break.”

In other parts of the audio, Biden seems confused, asking his son Beau Biden which year he died last year and the year he left the vice president.
House Judiciary sued Garland to show that he said he was "an elderly man with poor memory"
The audio was linked to an investigation into Biden’s handling of confidential documents after more than a year of requests from Congress lawmakers to release, after questions about the former president’s memory mistakes and intellectual acumen.
The House Judiciary Committee sued Attorney General Merrick Garland in July for recording, highlighting the importance of Biden’s answer’s “verbal and nonverbal background”, which the recording can provide, especially given HUR’s choice to refusal to collect biden after the interview, partly because Biden is seen as “sympathetic “sympathy”, a nice guy, the elderly are older, and this is a nice guy.

The committee believes that the recordings at that time were not only their transcripts, but also "the best evidence of how President Biden showed in the interview."
The lawsuit comes before Biden withdrew from the 2024 presidential election in July after struggling in June debate with Trump.
Biden exerted executive privilege on recordings when he was president.
After months of investigation, Hur released a report to the public in February 2024 that he did not recommend criminal charges against Biden because he was improper and kept confidential documents, and he said he would not file a lawsuit even if he was not in the Oval Office.

The records include confidential documents on military and foreign policy in Afghanistan and other countries, as well as other records related to national security and foreign policy, which Hur said means “sensitive sources of intelligence and methods.”
