Former Democratic Rep. Beto O'Rourke told the Pod Save America podcast Thursday that former President Joe Biden "failed the country" by seeking reelection, which he believes contributed to the return of incumbent President Donald Trump in 2024.
O'Rourke argued that Biden should not seek a second term and slammed the former president for trying to "sell" the public because he was the only candidate to beat Trump.
“It’s not only you and me, but our children and grandchildren and generations that follow may have to pay for it,” he said, adding, “We’re likely to lose the greatest country in the world.”

The former congressman and 2022 Texas gubernatorial candidate went on to blame Biden for his campaign efforts to lose in 2024, suggesting that having an open primary will benefit the party.
“This may be partly because Biden and the people around him decide to run for reelection rather than having an open main number where the greatest talent Democrats can call can be called on that stage with competitive thought and trailblazing and vision that not only inspires Democrats but not only to change Democrats, but hopefully change the people of this country.”
He claimed that “if there is anything clear in 2024”, it is that Americans want to change.

O'Rourke also criticized Congressmen, who claimed that Biden "runned the lap" in a closed briefing during his leadership in the 2024 election.
“It’s not what I saw with my own lying eyes,” he recalled, adding that Democrats covered what Biden called a decline in acuity and created credibility issues for moving forward parties during his office.
In a 2023 speech at Harvard Kennedy School of Politics, O'Rourke developed a similar emotion about Biden's re-election efforts, telling the crowd that Democratic voters were about the second to "no interest" in Biden's term.
"If you want to win in 2024, it will be crucial. It's not a secret that Democratic voters have no interest in Biden - it's polite. It's not a secret, it's not a poll we just read," he said.
