Betis 2-2 Fiorentina (May 8, 2025) Game Analysis

Abde Ezzalzouli won the Real Betis hero on Thursday as he won the overtime title, making them the first Spanish victory to beat Fiorentina 4-3 and had a showdown with Premier League side Chelsea.

After Betis celebrated their first European final (including goals and assists from Manchester United lender Antony), Fiorentina succumbed to the match in the semi-finals after the following final, further disappointing in the match.

Betis manager Manuel Pellegrini is very excited to reach the finals, but stressed that winning a Champions League position in Laliga remains his top priority.

"My sense of satisfaction is logical. I feel even happier when I see the joy of Betis fans. We feel some debt and need to give this joy to Betis fans."

But, Pellegrini added that aside from the final, ending the Laliga campaign with a high profile is a priority as his team is sixth, behind only 57 points and behind Villarreal.

"From tomorrow we'll leave the conference league out as we have four very important league games to target the Champions League until the end of the season," Pellegrini said. "We're very happy to be in the finals, and Chelsea and I sent me (Manager Enzo) Maresca a long time ago and were very happy for him."

Laliga's top four teams won automatic berths in the Champions League, while the Conference League champions are a spot in the Europa League next season.

The Italian owner faces a difficult task of Betis winning 2-1 in Seville last week and working to make any impact in early exchanges.

Betis improved their advantage when Anthony scored on a half-hour score with a stunning free kick, clamping the ball to the wall and bending it on the post.

However, just four minutes later, Fiorentina rose as an unmarked Robin Gosens and hit a corner, calmly turning the header to the distance, delighting cheering home fans.

Three minutes before the break, Gossens hit again, crossing Betis defender Marc Bartra and driving the header from another corner to the near top corner, completing a dramatic first-half turnaround for Fiorentina.

The movement didn't relax, and just before the break, Betis's Johnny Cardoso released a rocket from the edge of the box, flying over the crossbar, causing the crowd to gasp.

Before full-time, Anthony took the late equalizer in almost a few minutes at Betis, playing one-on-one with David de Gea, who saved in a one-on-one game that made an amazing double save.

It took Anthony seven minutes to manage to cross the cross over De Gea and into a time-consuming Ezzalzouli who easily scored from close range.

Betis will now play against Chelsea in Krakow, Poland on May 28, with the team easily dispatching Swedish club Djurgarden with a 5-1 overall victory.
