The Ecoflow Wave 2 costs $1,299: Lisa Wood Shapiro tested the latest model for this update. Ecoflow Wave 1 has cooled my wife’s office for over a year - we can’t use window AC there because it will prevent fire escapes. Look, there is a new version that is slightly cheaper (8/10, Wired recommends). It's a little lighter than its predecessor's 32 pounds, but has a rating of 5,100 BTU (up from 4,000). The new one is a rated heating mode with a 6,100 BTU so you can continue to use it to heat the room during the winter. The company says it is best for a room of 107 square feet. You do need to place it near the window so that one of the included pipes connected to the vents removes the hot exhaust from the back of the unit in the room. What makes this unit versatile is how you power it. You can use a standard AC outlet, but you can buy a version with a battery to keep it working when the power is not available, or you can connect it to a solar panel. - Julian Chokkattu
$460 Dreo Smart Air Conditioner: DREO smart air conditioning not only works and quickly cools a large bedroom, but it is also controlled by my iPhone app. In addition to Dreo's easy-to-use app, it can also be paired with Amazon Alexa or Google Home. It features an easy to read LED display and control panel, as well as a magnetized position of an open and closed shutter and adds to its robotic aesthetic. Setting up is easy, and since I was able to close the window on the expander, I didn't use a screw drill. It's not clear how I should capture the hose into the window hole, but I pushed it into it and it seemed to fit there well. It's not super seal, it's good. One of the problems with portable air conditioners is single tube. It can create a vacuum in an airtight space. Think about the pressure on your ears like an airplane. It can generate enough negative pressure so that the room may draw hot air from the outside. So let the windows open the cracks. However, we now recommend only dual-hose portable devices as they do not create a vacuum and are more efficient. - Lisa Wood Shapiro
Zero Breeze Mark II priced at $900: With its 2,300 BTU, you won't get the same cooling capacity as the Ecoflow Wave, but Zero Breeze (7/10, wired review) is much lighter at 17 pounds. The bundle includes a battery that will weigh about 30 pounds on the whole substance, but you can use it for four hours without being near a wall outlet. Like ecoflow, you get some exhaust pipes that guide the exhaust pipe and guide it to a specific area, but unlike Ecoflow, you can't charge the battery and use AC at the same time. - Julian Chokkattu
Zero Breeze Mark III, $1,300: Just like wired contributor Chris Null Notes (7/10, wired review), the Mark III is both bigger than the Mark II and weighs more heavily, now 22 pounds. Add the 1,022-WH battery pack and you will have another 14 pounds, although this keeps you from having to be near the power outlet. The new fact of Mark III is that it can now be stacked and charged in order, with each battery linked to another daisy (though it's probably going to be expensive soon, although it's over $600 per battery). Each Mark III battery also has an additional output that can be used for other devices (one USB-C port, one USB-A port and a 12-volt DC socket). However, the Mark II battery has all of the above batteries as well as a second USB-A port. There is no message about why it was deleted. But by most standards, it's a bigger, more powerful unit and worth buying for outdoor enthusiasts.
