The only grip I have with the plush version is that it doesn't have a belt (standard ok, but I haven't tested it yet). While it won't slip down - so it stays in place due to the cotton cover, but sometimes it will bend when you change the sheets and need to be leveled.
It doesn't make sense to spend $1,000 on an organic mattress and then buying an inorganic sheet that can be directly against the skin. This is our favorite organic sheets that can be ranked on your new organic mattress. Soft cotton cloth
These are the best organic cotton boards I've ever tested. They are soft, but not too silky, which is a feeling I don't care (check out the avocado slices below if you do). Brooklinen organic cotton boards are made of GOTS certified organic cotton. They are also Oeko-Tex certified, meaning they are tested and do not contain any known toxic chemicals. The 300 thread count makes this crisp and soft, but not so tight that you end up sleeping hot. These are great choices for summer, or like me, you will sleep on the warm side even in winter.
For the silky feeling
These 600 sheets are like sleeping on silk or satin. In fact, they are actually 100% obtained organic cotton from India. The only potential problem here is that because they are so densely weave, they sleep warmer than you are used to. The avocado also has 400 compute versions that I haven't tested yet, but it might be a better option for a warm sleeper.
Soft, crisp hotel-style bed linen
I first tested Antipodean's wool duvet (see next section), but I recently started sleeping on these sheets and said with confidence that they were great. They remind me of the sheets you find in high-end hotels - crispy, soft, clean white sheets. Like any organic cotton cloth here, they are naturally hypoallergenic. They are made of super iron, long and wide organic cotton, and their heavier woven side makes them a little heavier. Everything Antpodean does is sustainable on low-impact farms that practice regenerative farming methods. These are breathable, too. I haven't fallen asleep with them yet, but the only bedding I need so far is sheets.
Linen
Organic linen is a potential heirloom purchase – if not decades old, high-quality, good linen will last year. That said, if you are used to 600 pieces of cotton like the sheets above, linen is different. They are rougher, although each wash (cold water, gentle cleaner, cooling or hanging dry) becomes softer. What has not changed is their weight. If you prefer heavy lids, these are the sheets for you. Linen is also more breathable and cooler than other fabrics, which is a great choice for those who sleep very hot. Very durable, too. The organic linen for avocado is the heaviest I have ever tried and will probably last for many years. The bottom paper is mounted (sometimes the linen set flat) and has a matching duvet cover ($439).
A great organic wool duvet
To perfect your organic linen linen, you need a good organic duvet. My favorite thing I've tested is Antipodean's organic merino wool duvet. As one of our authors of our Merino Wool Guide, I was delighted to love Antipodean's wool duvet, but even though I was surprised by my preferences. Like most wool, Antipodean's wool duvet has amazing feats that sound too good, such as keeping it warm but breathable enough that you rarely get too hot. (I'm a popular sleeper, and I can guarantee it.) Wool can do this because it's an active fiber, that is, it reacts to changes in body temperature and environment just like it does when it's insulating, warming and cooling sheep. The result was a duvet, which gave me some of the best night's sleep. One thing to note is that this duvet is much heavier than most people use. I don't mind, but it does feel like a weighted blanket at times.
Organic pillows
We have a whole guide to pillows, but we'll add more organic options here because your pillow is as important as a mattress if you want to get rid of phthalates and other chemicals.
The best organic choice in our pillow guide is the best part of the avocado green pillow is the ease of choice you can modify it. For example, I hate fluffy pillows; I like almost flat pillows. So I just untied the avocado pillow, pulled out half of the filling (my kids used it as sock puppets) and ended up with the pillow I dreamt of. My son loves a pillow stuffed with pillows, he took some extra stuffing from the avocado to give you and stuffed his pillows. Everyone won. The filler here is to slice GOLS certified organic latex and GOTS certified organic kapok. The sewn organic cotton cover is beautiful and soft and not too hot. I've been four years now and it's as good as the day I got.
Mattresses are large and testing them is time-consuming and space-consuming. Members of the wired gear team have been testing mattresses for years and we slept on each of the mattresses on the list for at least a few weeks, usually longer (and in many cases, longer). That is, we cannot test it. Here are some general tips, tips and things to look for when buying organic mattresses online.
To help you understand the often confusing world of organic mattresses, here are some terms and certifications.
The big names of organic certification and organic cotton certification are the global organic textile standard, usually abbreviated as GOTS. It looks like it is not only about how cotton is grown and processed, but also in terms of ecological and social standards, it independently verifies compliance with standards using third parties. If you are curious, you can read the 6th edition of the standard version online.
