The winner’s writer co-founded the first Black Women’s Theatre Company in Britain over 40 years ago and has published notable writing in a variety of genres. Throughout his career, Evaristo launched several successful writing programs to support female writers and underrepresented color writers, and recently launched the RSL Scriptorium Award, which provides 10 writers with a year’s chance to use her Kent cabin for a writing retreat.

The bonus was “an unexpected blessing in my life”, she said, “I spent this considerable amount to support other female writers.” She said details about how she would do it.
Funded by Bukhman charity, the award is designed to reflect the founding principles of the Women’s Novel Award, “celebrating and amplifying women’s voices; opening up the pathways as viable career options for women from all backgrounds and enjoying the focus on all backgrounds; and discovering and enjoying for readers on outstanding, original books.”
In addition to the prize, Eva Stowe will receive a sculpture named by artist Caroline Russell, which will be awarded on June 12, when winners of her novel and nonfiction Women’s Awards will also be revealed.
The jury was hosted by Kate Mosse, the founder of the Author and Women’s Awards, who was selected along with the former Novel Judge Awards: Academic and Writer Gillian Beer; writer and activist Scarlett Curtis; playwright and writer Bonnie Greer; and broadcaster Vick Hope. To receive the award, the author must have published at least five books and was previously included in the Women’s Novel Award.
