Bartel Creek - Bob is hitting the diamond.

The best Battle Creek series among the Inquirers will be expanded this year to include top players on baseball and softball courts throughout the region.

Every week, throughout the spring, we ask, “Who is the best at Battle Creek?” when we look at every position for baseball and softball in the city/region high school team.

Nominations for each position are from city/region coaches and each player has some information. This year will be a harder list when we expand our field to urban and regional teams, but once we do that, it will be up to the inquirer readers to decide who Bob is

Every week, we make choices for readers and open our online polls, with winners closing at noon next Tuesday.

Next is the corner infield player for the city/region baseball team:

Aidan Decker

School: United City

class: Advanced

Why is it the best 1B/3B in the city/region: Aidan Decker is a four-year college player who has been promoted from Second Base to Senior Game. Honorary All-in-Charge Meeting Last year, Decker reached .435 with 24 RBIs and 12 doubles. He will play football at Hope Academy next year.

Gavin Eyre

School: Climax - Scott/st. Philip cooperation

class: Advanced

Why is it the best 1B/3B in the city/region: Gavin Eyre is one of the state's top infield players as he was honored to mention the state a year ago. Eyre hit .562 with 21 runs and 7 stolen bases and a hit rate of 0.923. He is also a key pitcher, 3-0 with 23 strikeouts in 10 innings.

Alex Krugh

School: Carlesburg - Augusta

class: Sophomore

Why is it the best 1B/3B in the city/region: Alex Krugh is one of the young pitchers in the third division of the area, a freshman starter and has received all-area honors. This year, he scored .464 with 21 RBIs and 18 scores and 7 stolen bases.

Kenny Lambes

School: Paynefield

class: primary

Why is it the best 1B/3B in the city/region: Kenny Lambeth started two years at Pennfield's third base, strong defensive performance with excellent instincts. Also a contributor on the plate, juniors ranked second on the RBI team with a hit rate of .280.

Max Markham

School: Owl Lake

class: primary

Why is it the best 1B/3B in the city/region: Max Markham is a two-year college player who ranks third in the 19-3 Seagulls Lake team. The junior scored .448 with three home runs, 20 RBIs and 20 scoring. He is an outstanding leader in the third base position of the Blue Devils.

Maddox McCarty

School: Harper Creek

class: primary

Why is it the best 1B/3B in the city/region: Maddox McCarty is a two-year college player who received All-City and All-City honors last year, hitting the ball in the middle of the Harper Creek roster and hitting a consistent 0.300 hit rate this season.

Ian Russell

School: Lake view

class: Advanced

Why is it the best 1B/3B in the city/region: Ian Russell is one of the few returners on the young Lakeview team, who transitioned to third base to accommodate the team and thrived. Russell showed off a strong arm and was an important bat in the lineup. Seniors will compete at the next level at Aquinas College.

Colin Tattoo

School: colon

class: Advanced

Why is it the best 1B/3B in the city/region: Colin Trattles was a real team player when Colin didn't play first base. A key part of the MAGI lineup and an infield leader.
