Carlo Ancelotti said Xabi Alonso had “all the doors opened” to move to a large club, speculating that the former Real Madrid midfielder would replace the Italian coach at the helm of the Spanish powerhouse.
Ancelotti held a regular pre-match press conference on Saturday, the day after Alonso announced his departure from Bayer Leverkusen.
He praised Alonso's work, which was ultimately associated with the final return to Madrid after leading the German club to the German club championship last season.
“I read that Xabi left Bayer Leverkusen and he did a great job there,” Ancelotti said before heading to Barcelona on Sunday. “All his doors are open because he shows he is one of the best coaches in the world.”
Ancelotti once again refused to talk about his future, especially before Laliga's decisive Clasico. Madrid Trail Barcelona has four points and needs to win to keep them at a chance to win the trophy in this campaign.
But he did talk with motion about what Madrid's most successful manager in European football meant what that would mean.
For Ancelotti, his relationship with the club has spent six of two seasons, an eternal "honeymoon".
“The honeymoon with this club is never ending, it lasts forever,” he said. “I think Real Madrid is the team with me given the time I spent here. There was passion in the beginning, and when that fade away gradually my honeymoon will last, and as long as I live, my honeymoon will last.”
The 65-year-old coach is on contract form in the next campaign but is expected to perform poorly after a season-long lackluster season, despite adding Kylian Mbappe to the team.
Brazil has been proposing to Ancelotti for more than a year and it seems that negotiations with the senior manager are still in progress.
Laliga has only four games left in the season, with only one victory that will actually keep Real Madrid's hope of retaining the championship, and for Ancelotti, they will need to make everything right to get the chance on Sunday.
"In this type of game, you have to do a good job. Barcelona is used to leaving their opponents in their area, but no team is perfect," he said.
"It's a game that endangers a lot, and to win, you have to manage everything well, defend well, and attack well. We have to play a complete game."
Ancelotti will be excited because of the dangers of being with their great rivals.
“It’s not difficult to motivate players because it’s a type of game that players have motivated and confident,” he said.
"It's special to play with Barcelona. It's going to be the last 'El Clasico' of the season because Barcelona is not in the club World Cup."

Manager Hansi Flick said in a press conference on Saturday that Barcelona players have discussed last week's Champions League knockout and are ready to disappoint rival Real Madrid.
Barcelona suffered a 4-3 Champions League semi-final from Inter Milan on Tuesday.
Sunday's home win will keep Flick's first win away from their 28th Spanish League title.
"We did a great job. After Milan failed, everyone knew it wasn't easy...but we were doing the right thing. We've talked about what we wanted to do in the past two weeks," Flick told reporters.
"There are four more games left. ElClasico is important and we have to show how we perform. We have to show confidence. The players are doing well...we keep talking about what they are thinking, how they feel.
"We have to talk about it as a group. Everyone knows that in a Krasico, you have to give 100%. You have to stay active, intense, dominant. Real Madrid is a very good team and we need fans."
