Geelong is the most popular country for domestic immigration

The Greater Geelong region has become the most popular destination among Australian promoters, after figures suggest it accounts for the largest share of net internal migration.

The latest Regional Moving Index (RMI) report shows that the larger Geelong local government areas had an internal net migration share of 9.3% in the 12 months from the March quarter, while the Sunshine Coast had a net net migration rate of 8.9%, which outperformed the charts in the previous two years.

These figures reflect the increase in metropolitan areas to regional movement, with capital relocations up nearly 11% in the previous quarter, 20.5% higher than the previous average.
