Patterson's defense attorney asks her about her estate

She confirmed that her grandmother died in 2006 and she was one of many beneficiaries.

Patterson said the estate was first allocated around February 2007, with the last being as of the end of 2015.

lawyer Colin Mandy SC asked about the money she was allowed to do.

"It really allows us to buy a house. When we settled in Western Australia without a mortgage," she said.

Patterson said the couple helped her estranged husband Simon's siblings and their partner buy the home on a loan of about $400,000.

She said the amount and timing of repayment depended on them. Patterson said the loan suffered inflation but had no interest.

What did the jury hear yesterday

As we wait for today’s proceedings to begin, here’s a review the jury heard on Monday:

  1. Patterson enters the witness box and begins to testify in her triple murder. Members of the Patterson and Wilkinson family, including Ian Wilkinsonin court.

  2. The defendant said in the months leading up to lunch in July 2023 that she felt her relationship with the Pattersons, especially her parents-in-law. University Teacher and Gailthere are "more distances". She said her relationship with her estranged husband began in 2023 Simonis "functional", and the two mainly communicated with logistics issues.

  3. She told the court that Patterson had a “never-ending battle of self-esteem” for most of his adult life. She said around lunch time, she planned to have a gastric bypass surgery to lose weight.

  4. Defense Attorney Colin Mandy SC asked his client about tensions with Simon, which involved multiple separations between 2009 and 2015. She said the two “just can’t communicate” when they had differences. “We’ll feel hurt,” she said.

  5. Prosecutors concluded the case Monday afternoon before Patterson entered the witness box.

Patterson began testifying on Monday and is expected to continue providing evidence.

We expect the trial to resume from 10:30 a.m. once the jurors enter Mowell’s court.

Patterson, 50, encountered three counts of murder and one count of attempted murder in connection with a beef Wellington lunch at his house in Leongatha, Victoria on July 29, 2023.

She was accused of murdering her in-laws, University Teacher and Gail Pattersonthe aunt of her estranged husband, Heather Wilkinson. Attempted murder is related to Heather's husband Ian.

She pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Prosecutors accused Patterson of intentionally poisoning her lunch guests with “murder intentions,” but her lawyers said the poisoning was a tragic accident.
