Athena and Bobby, Ryan Guzman's Eddie

Spoiler Alert:
The story contains spoilers for Thursday’s Season 8 finale, “9-1-1” on ABC.

The eighth season finale of "9-1-1" ended with Angela Bassett's Athena Grant, saying two bittersweet words: "Hello Bobby."

Athena's remarks were not about her late husband Bobby Nash (Peter Krause), but about the Chimney (Kenneth Choi) and McGrady (Jennifer Love Hewitt)'s newborn son Robert Nash Han.

The tribute to Bobby is far from the only one that pays to the entire Season 8 finale, titled “Earthquake Transformation” as the team continues to deal with the logistical and emotional impact of Bobby’s sudden death ahead of three episodes.

At the beginning of the plot, Eddie (Ryan Guzman) will return to Texas to start his new job in El Paso. The team gave him 118 uniforms as gifts at his farewell party, where they made two big announcements: Hen (Aisha Hinds) said she turned down Job and Oliver Stark, who are now open, did “the number of now” without Bobby because it is “the number of now.”

Meanwhile, Athena is in downtown Los Angeles calling for the collapse of the high-rise building before her. Site 118 is a station dispatched immediately to help, Chimney down to help Athena, who single-handedly tried to save several residents of the building, including "Cart Police" Graham.

When Eddie saw the situation on TV, he grabbed his uniform and decided to come down to help his former team. "If Bobby teaches me anything, it's that we always have a choice," he said. He took off his crazy gun stunts to help Buck and Ravi (Anirud Pisarodi) rescue a man from the building.

Next, the entire crew will help Athena and Chimney, who have closed down and keep the dying Graham safe. The Chimney was able to save Graham, an act that could help him and Athena reach peace they had not felt since Bobby sacrificed himself to save the Chimney.

When they return to the station, Chimney will bravely speak, telling Eddie that he wasn't moving and he didn't transfer, neither of them will be together as a family in 118's family.

"Copy that, cap. I mean, Chim." Hen said, suggesting that the new character of Chimney Night will be in the next season.

At the end of the episode, Eddie is moving back to Los Angeles, a plot that closes rumors about Guzman leaving “9-1-1.” The rest of the final montage of the finale is dedicated to Athena selling the converted house she lives with Bobby, Buck is looking for a new place, Eddie and Christopher return to their old place, Hen and Karen adopt Nia, and everyone comes to Maddie, who has her new baby, Bobby.

The 9-1-1 Season 8 finale does not include any Bobby’s flashback or ghost Bobby moments, but the series was renewed in ABC’s Season 9. As a result, fans will have to wait until fall to see how the team continues to recover from the deaths of the most important character in the history of the series.
