Sources told ESPN that Real Madrid defender Antonio Rüdiger is expected to tell ESPN after having a knee surgery on Tuesday.
Sources told ESPN that Rudiger is expected to be out of service within two months, which will make him miss the rest of the Laliga season and endanger his participation in the club World Cup this summer.
Sources said the club's goal is to make the centre-back fully suitable for the preseason without taking any unnecessary risks.
But Rudiger said in an Instagram post that he will "do everything" in order to return in time to compete in this summer in Madrid and Germany with the World Cup.
"After I suffered seven months of severe pain, unfortunately, it was inevitable that I had to undergo meniscus surgery," Rudiger said.
"Now I finally have no pain again, the surgery has been successful...I hope to be able to compete in the big matches of the National League and the Club World Cup again as soon as possible, but I have to look at it now every week and we will see it. I will do everything I can to achieve this."
"Today, our player Antonio Rüdiger has had a successful surgery in the outer bend of his left leg," Madrid said in a statement on Tuesday. "The operation was conducted by Dr. Manuel Leyes under the supervision of Real Madrid Medical Services. Rudiger will soon begin to resume work."
Rüdiger, 32, was replaced with Madrid's overtime win over Madrid, defeating Barcelona 3-2 in Saturday's Cup final and later received a red card for throwing objects on the court and trying to fight the referee.
The Dermany International - who played with bandaged knees for a while before being withdrawn - later apologized for his actions, saying in a social media post that “no excuses for my actions.”
Rüdiger was sent out in the 120th minute of Saturday's Cup final, and Jules Koundé gave Barcelona a 3-2 score in overtime.
Referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea said Rudiger was dismissed for throwing an object from the technical field, and then “must be bound by individual members of the coaching staff and show a positive attitude”.
The Spanish Football Federation's Discipline Committee will reveal the ban on incidents from the guards' ban in the coming days, although his surgery will now rule out his involvement for the rest of the season.
Madrid's defense has no long-absented Ed Militono and Dani Carvajal, who have suffered ACL injuries earlier this season.
Left-back Ferland Mendy, who lasted just eight minutes after he was injured in the Cup final, then pulled the issue back, while midfielder Eduardo Camavinga (which can also be filled in left-back) suffered a serious groin injury to Getafe last week and will not be back this season.
Madrid has four points behind Barcelona at the top of Laliga with five games left. They hosted Celta Vigo on Sunday and then headed to another Clásico to face Barcelona next week.
They will play Al Hilal, Pachuca and RB Salzburg on the club's World Cup stage in their first match against Al Hilal on June 18 in Miami, Florida.
