Anthony Richardson entered his third season with a true quarterback battle, but his pursuit of winning a starting job in the 2025 season will be harder after injury.

Richardson's throwing arm is dealing with a shoulder injury and will be attending the Colts' mini camp next week with head coach Shane Steichen next week.

Steichen added that Richardson was injured in an organized team event last week.

"Doctor, the trainer checked it out," Stephen said. "His AC Federation is aggravated. So, we're going to sit him down this week. Obviously, he'll sit on the little training machine. We'll see when he'll be back. Not going to put a schedule for the bootcamp schedule, but when he does come back we'll come back, we'll relax him and throw things, and we'll start from there. The good thing is that there's a program now."

Although Steichen noted that the injury was not enough for surgery, the procedure was not ruled out.

Former giant quarterback Daniel Jones signs with Colts in a 1-year deal: Report

Richardson suffered a number of injuries in his first two NFL seasons, including a season-end shoulder injury after four games in his rookie season. A 2024 tilt injury cost him two games.

Richardson, the fourth pick in Florida in 2023, returned to the Colts last year, throwing only 1,814 yards in 11 games, with a completion rate of 47.7%.

Steichen moved to Richardson's bench last season while struggling, with backup Joe Flacco replacing his center.

This year, the Colts brought Daniel Jones, the New York Giants cut their ties with the midway in the 2024 campaign due to their own struggles, competing with Richardson in training camp.

Although Jones didn’t eliminate him under a four-year extension in New York, he did start in the NFL for many years. His increase in the quarterback room led many to believe Richardson's job was not safe.

Richardson now has to fight another damage again before fighting Jones.

"It's frustrating, but he's uplifting," Stephen said of Richardson. "So we're working on it now."

With Richardson's game, Jones will get a share of the Lions' small training camp representatives.
