Angelina Jolie attended the Cannes Film Festival, not in the lineup, but had formal responsibilities due to Chopard, the festival’s long-time (and fascinating) sponsor.
The Oscar winner agreed to serve as the Godmother of Chabad this year, a show where she hosted her host at the A-list Trophée Phopard dinner at Carlton Beach on Friday night, presented the cast and actresses with a jury of formerly respected holiday honors as the talent passed down from generation to generation. This year’s awards were presented to French actress Marie Colomb and Breakthrough British star Finn Bennett, recently at Alex Garland’s war and Jodie Foster opposite The real detective: the country at night.

The godmother always provides introductory remarks, Julie maximizes her time by professing her love for international films while being loyal to her humanitarian activism and bringing tragic stories of women who have died in wars and conflicts abroad.
"I love international movies. We are taken to other lands, into private moments, and even on the battlefield, we connect and sympathize. I think of movies like this one My father's shadowthis was premiered in Cannes. Julie said: "Anything that may make international films more accessible is necessary and welcome, and none of us are naive. We know that many artists around the world lack the freedom and security to tell their stories, many of whom have died, such as Fatima Hassouna, killed in Gaza, Shaden Gardoo killed in Sudan, Victoria Amelina killed in Ukraine, and many other extraordinary artists who should be with us. We owe the gratitude of all those who risk their lives and share their stories and experiences because they help us learn and develop."
Julie continued that people gathered in Cannes not only for charm, but for connection. “Even if they are cute, what we bring here is not a carpet, but what we bring here is to connect with each other through international cinemas and have the opportunity to be with creative people,” she added. “So I’m honored to be with many outstanding global artists, including tonight’s winners, Finn Bennett and Mary Colon. Both of you have brought your own roles to you with extraordinary versatility, authenticity and compassion as a rising talent in cinemas around the world. You’ve paid everything for what you’ve done and anything you’ve done and risen in cinemas around the world.
In accepting, Bennett thanked his agent Bella Wingfield, who "his belief in me still confuses me," his "beautiful companions" Anna and Jolie. "I am very honored to be awarded this award by such a respected actor and film producer. But not only that, her work in the humanitarian cause and ecological cause means she is a person and will always be on the right side of history."
Despite the promise of ending with a musical performance by actress, singer and former French First Lady Carla Bruni. But Bruni was released on bail even after the musicians rally on stage due to noise from the next venue (loud music played in a competitive bar). Later, she went to Instagram to slam the field and thanked Scheufele for the opportunity.
"When it's time to sing, when it's time for the Shabad Trophy, our neighbors' decision was so deafening that we couldn't even hear the winner's name. … We've prepared five or six songs for our guests. We look forward to the performance tonight," explained the wife of former French President Nicolas Sarkakozy. "We couldn't play because Carlton Beach decided to have a party that didn't respect the artist next door, and didn't respect the Shocked Trophy. I want to thank Caroline Scheufele and told her that I'd sing for free at any time. Thank you for the horrible jersey you imposed on us on Carlton Beach."
