Amazon invests $10 billion in data centers in North Carolina

Tech giant Amazon announced a $10 billion investment in North Carolina, U.S. to expand its data center infrastructure.

The project aims to support advances in artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing technology.

According to the company, the investment will create at least 500 "high-skill" jobs.

It will also support thousands of other efforts in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) data center supply chain.

According to Amazon’s press release, the demand for generating AI is rising, which increases the need for advanced cloud infrastructure and computing power.

This expansion will strengthen the state's AWS data centers.

Commenting on the move, David Zapolsky, Amazon’s $10 billion investment in North Carolina highlights our commitment to drive innovation and fostering the future of cloud computing and AI technologies.”

“We look forward to working with state and local leaders, local suppliers and educational institutions to develop the next generation of talent.”

In another development, Amazon is reportedly developing software for humanoid robots.

Reuters reported that the robots may have the potential to replace delivery workers and cited information about familiarity with the matter.

The company is building an indoor obstacle race "humanoid park" in one of its San Francisco offices to test the robots. Amazon focuses on developing AI software for these robots while using other companies' hardware for testing.

Amazon did not immediately respond to requests for comment outside of regular working hours.

Recently, Amazon began testing a new feature that uses Generate AI (Genai) to create short form audio summary on the selected product details page.

This feature provides a concise overview of the product by analyzing product details, customer reviews and other relevant online information.

The initial testing features target products that usually require careful consideration before, providing clear insights through in-depth discussions to help Amazon customers shop more effectively, the company said in an article.
