Amazon CEO says 100,000 users now own Alexa+

CEO Andy Jassy said on the company's financial call Thursday that Amazon's upgraded digital assistant has offered a pitch to Alexa+, which was launched by Alexa+.

While that's a far cry from the 600 million Alexa devices, the company has made some progress in the launch of Alexa+, which debuted in February. At the time, Amazon said that Alexa+ would be waving in the coming months.

Amazon’s new digital assistant is designed to let users talk to it in a more natural way and ultimately have proxy capabilities that allow them to use third-party applications on behalf of users. Alexa+ should be able to generate raw responses on the fly, just like the voice modes in Openai's Chatgpt and Google's Gemini, rather than the scheduled responses from the old Alexa and Siri Systems.

But, as The Washington Post reported at its launch, the Alexa+ launched today lacks some of the company's key features held in February. At the time of release, Alexa+ was not able to use third-party apps such as GrubHub to generate bedtime stories for children or brainstorm. It is not clear when these features will be incorporated into Alexa+.

"We plan to add features in the coming months," Jassy said on the phone.

In his opening remarks, Jassy claimed that Alexa+ was one of the first action-oriented AI agents. But he noted that the technology is still "primitive" and "inaccurate". Amazon CEO said that most multi-step AI agents currently have low accuracy rates, ranging from 30% to 60%. Jassy sets a goal for the company's web browsing agent that powers the Nova Act to achieve 90% accuracy in the field.

Amazon's launch of Alexa+ seems to be a step faster than Apple's introduction of new LLM-powered Siri. Asked about the new Siri delaying the concurrent Amazon in Apple's earnings call on Thursday, CEO Tim Cook said the company needed "more time to get the job done."

Both Apple and Amazon are reportedly stuck with obstacles and delays along the old digital assistant leading to the growth. Some of the biggest slap around getting LLM to use tools and integrate with other systems. Doing so allows Alexa and Siri to perform practical tasks such as setting timers and reading text, but implementing it is harder than expected.
