Award-winning journalist Alvin Patrick is executive producer of the race and culture department of CBS News, radio and media businesses.

Patrick was appointed to this extended role in August 2024. In this new position, he oversees the critical work done by the racial and cultural sectors, while long-term programming will expand in CBS News, Radio and Media Enterprises.

Patrick previously served as executive producer of CBS News Streaming Originals and CBS News Competition and Culture.

Under Patrick's guidance, the CBS News Competition and Culture Department works with executive producers from all platforms across the department to ensure that the report has the proper context, tone and intent.

His team works closely with CBS News standards and practices to ensure that all reports comply with CBS News’ strict guidelines. He also oversees CBS Village, an online repository containing CBS news coverage about all communities.

He is the founding executive producer of the Race and Culture Unit, created in the summer of 2020. Since then, Patrick and his team have produced numerous specials that have been featured on the Network and across CBS News streaming properties, including the primetime specials "Pope Francis: The First" and "The Deciders," both hosted by" CBS Evening News" anchor and managing editor Norah O'Donnell. His department also produced "Tulsa 1921: American Tragedy" and the one-hour special "Trayvon Martin: 10 Years Later". Additionally, Patrick's department has partnered with BET News to create BET's BET America.

Patrick oversees a team that provides original reporting and branded/sponsored content for CBS news flow and digital attributes, including Paramount+. He oversaw the "CBS Report" for "CBS Report", the original long-term feature and documentary department, and showed "Sun Come Come cove the Sun the Sun the Sun the Sure" and "With Norah O'Donnell" on CBS News 24/7.

Patrick has over 30 years of experience in the radio and cable businesses. He joined CBS News in 2012 as a senior producer, working specifically with CBS News Special Correspondent James Brown. He produced 60 minutes of reports for Showtime, "CBS Mornings", "CBS Evening News", "Facing the Country" and "48 Hours", "60 Minutes of Sports", "CBS Mornings". Patrick continues to work with Brown on CBS projects, including Brown’s weekly sports news roundup on the CBS News Streaming Network.

Prior to joining CBS News, Patrick was a senior producer for ABC News "Nightline" (2009-2011) and a senior producer for digital news magazine "The Daily" (2011-2012). Previously, he was the executive producer of ESPN's "Cold Pizza" and "ESPN News" (2005-2009). He served as executive producer and vice president for MTV Networks (2001-2004) and was a producer for HBO's "Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel" (1999-2000). He began his career in broadcast networking at ABC News and ABC Sports (1989-1998).

Patrick's work has earned him numerous awards, including seven National Emmy nominations, seven NABJ Tribute Awards, Gabriel Awards and Freddy Awards. He also shared two Edward R. Murrow awards with colleagues at CBS News.

Patrick received his Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY, and a Master of Fine Arts from City University of New York-Brooklyn.
