All the unanswered questions about Nintendo Switch 2

Nintendo has finally unveiled its new console, debuting the Switch 2 with a short video that focuses on visuals but less information. The video is paired with a brief follow-up press release from Nintendo return Without revealing too many details, the company is ostensibly saving all the fun stuff for the Switch 2 Direct, which will take place on April 2. While we wait for official news, here are the burning questions we still have about the Nintendo Switch 2.

What are the specs of Switch 2?

Perhaps the most glaring omission from the Switch 2 launch was that Nintendo didn't reveal the new console's capabilities. We can see that the console is larger, but what is the screen size? Is it OLED or LCD? Is the screen resolution still 720p? Does it support 4K resolution?

Although the leaked video only appeared for a short period of time, it shows off the Switch 2's new dock. What is the docking resolution? Is it just a charging case, or do you need it to watch TV series? Can you dock the Switch 2 to the original Switch dock, or are all ultraportable third-party docks supported?

The Switch 2 also has a second USB-C port on the top. It might offer a way to connect USB-C headphones without sacrificing a charging port. But maybe it has some other mysterious capabilities. Has native Bluetooth support been improved? If using Bluetooth headsets, it is best to connect more than two wireless controllers. How about the user interface? Can we expect to see a home screen similar to the original Switch? How is the UI of eShop? Can you also post screenshots and clips directly to Facebook? Will Nintendo add the ability to post to other social media or streaming platforms?

How exactly do the Switch 2 Joy-Con controllers work?

A lot of the trailers focus on the new Joy-Cons, and while we can infer some information, there's a lot more we don't know. Are they attached via magnets? Do they still have 3D rumble? Does Switch 2 support the wireless mode of the original Switch Pro controller or original Switch Joy-Con?

Prior to the reveal, there were rumors that the Joy-Con would feature magnetic Hall effect joysticks, which were said to combat Joy-Con drift. So, what improvements has Nintendo made to prevent drift? If the new Joy-Con drifts, will Nintendo still provide repair services? Will the new Joy-Con be sold separately at launch? Do they come in new colors?

What does this new button do?

There's a new button on the Switch 2, located just below the home button on the right Joy-Con. Could this be related to the rumored new chat feature?

Of course, this seems to be some mouse manipulation.

Do the new Joy-Cons work like a mouse?

In the demo video, the Joy-Cons are attached to the lid and zoom around the surface like a mouse. Is the "mouse" function one of the new gimmicks of Switch 2? Speaking of gimmicks, are there still infrared cameras for gaming? 1-2-switch? I also hope that Switch 2 still supports original Switch peripherals, such as Ring Fitness Adventure Huankang.

What games can be played on Switch 2?

The Switch 2 launch event only showed off one game: a new game mario kart. Beyond that, we don't know what kind of games will be coming, or if new games will be released at all. mario kart Will even be in it. So, what types of games can we expect from the Switch 2? Will there be Switch 2 exclusive games at launch, or will we have cross-gen games like breath of the wild? One of the biggest initial complaints about the Switch was that newer, larger games often didn't run or didn't look as good. Can the console run more technical games? If so, will they run locally on the console, or can they be played via cloud streaming, e.g. kingdom hearts and control?

speaking of mario kartFrom the brief glimpse we got in the trailer, there appeared to be 15 racers competing at the same time, 24 positions behind the starting line. Does this mean the Switch 2 will have enhanced multiplayer features, such as larger player lobbies, and will the console itself support communication with them? What about Amiibos? Does the Switch 2 still support these features, or are there plans to support more?

Which Switch 2 games will be backwards compatible?

In today's video, Nintendo reiterates that the Switch 2 will be backwards compatible and play original Switch games both physical and digital, but with an important caveat: all Games will be supported. Which original Switch games are incompatible? Will original Switch games running on the console receive some kind of graphics or performance boost like some games on PlayStation and Xbox?

How much does the Switch 2 cost?

There's also the question of how much the Switch 2 will cost. The original Switch in 2017 retailed for $299.99. Since then, the cost of everything has gone up, especially computer chips. The Switch OLED is the only significantly updated console Nintendo offers, and it's only $50 more expensive than the base model. But without knowing its internal specs, it's hard to guess how much the Switch 2 will cost.

When will Switch 2 launch?

Our biggest unanswered question about the Switch 2 is also the simplest: When can we buy it? Nintendo didn't reveal much, other than to say it would launch in 2025. Much like the original Switch, it will take the Switch 2 on a world tour starting in April. The console's release date will most likely come after the tour, which is expected to be in June. Hopefully, Nintendo will share this key information, as well as answers to at least some of these questions, during its Switch 2 Direct on April 2.

How do the cartridges taste?

Oh, wait, one more burning question... what flavors can we expect on Switch 2 cartridges? I wish there was something better than "insecticide".
