After Mother Nature interfered with the series opener Monday night, the Minnesota Twins and Cleveland guardians will pack two games in Minneapolis Tuesday night.
The rain may ruin these plans again.
The teams plan to resume their paused Monday game first innings at 6:10 pm ET on Tuesday. About 30 minutes after the game, the team will meet again to participate in the game scheduled for Tuesday.
Tuesday’s call for forecasts of continued rainfall during the day, and it remains to be seen whether the field is good enough to resume the game and full play at night. If the team is unable to play on Tuesday, their next scheduled game is Wednesday afternoon.
Managers of both teams may have to juggle their pitchers in the coming days.
Twins right-handed Bailey Ober and Guardian left-hand Logan Allen threw three innings in the first three innings Monday after being suspended. Neither pitcher will be back on Tuesday, which will leave both teams heavily relying on bullpens to fill the final five innings.
After the two innings were stopped, the twins led 2-1. France and Willi Castro have an RBI for Minnesota, Kyle Manzardo drove the Guardian's only run.
Right-handed Gavin Williams (3-2, 4.29 ERA) will bring the ball to Cleveland in a regular scheduled game on Tuesday. He will make decisions on Wednesday’s no-decision against the Milwaukee brewer, when he allowed two hits in five innings. He walked one and hit six.
Williams had a 2-2 3.79 ERA in five careers against the twins. During these outings, he walked nine innings and beat 16 innings in 19 innings.
Minnesota will fight back against Chris Paddack (2-3, 4.05) in regular scheduled games. The right-handed won back-to-back wins against the San Francisco Giants and the Baltimore Orioles, with a total of one game in 14 1/3 innings.
In two careers against Cleveland, Paddack was 0-0 with 2.08 ERA and eight strikeouts in 13 innings.
Twin outfielder Matt Wallner left the roster due to tension in his left leg muscle, but he was close to returning. Wallner, who may start his recovery mission immediately Wednesday, is eager to rejoin a Minnesota team that has won 13 of the last 14 games.
"It was so fun to watch," Walner said. "Obviously,[I'm]very excited. I think we're a really good team. Everyone really stepped up. I looked at the fans' perspective last week and it was so fun to watch men contribute in every aspect of the game."
Cleveland manager Stephen Vogt looks forward to every game against the twins.
"We know the twins are doing very well right now," Vogt said. "So is the case with the Tigers (Detroit). … It's going to be a tough journey. We know it's a tough journey."
