Motorola Razr+ (2025): Technically, Motorola has a third phone in its latest RAZR lineup: RAZR+ 2025. However, it's almost the same as last year's RAZR+ 2024, with fresh colors and an improved IP48 rating and titanium-fixed hinges. It is in the awkward middle position, though. It's not as affordable as the standard RAZR, and it provides a nice experience for the money. But this is not As Flagship as the Razr Ultra. It's also the only lineup without a speeding camera. I usually like telephoto zoom lenses, but super fast is very convenient on flip phones for group selfies. If you are considering this model, it's also worth considering the 2024 Razr+ as you'll see some nice discounts throughout the year.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 priced at $1,000: The 2023 fifth generation Galaxy Z Flip5 (7/10, wired recommendation) is a polished flip phone with IPX8 waterproof rating and silent hinges. It closes completely flat without leaving gaps in the middle, and this iteration has a larger cover screen on the front, which allows you to view notifications from large widgets like calendars, weather, step counts, and timers (as well as responding to them via a full-size keyboard) and can turn on the device. Newer Flip6 won't add many new features - the upgrade is already in the software, and FLIP5 has received many features. Make sure you won't pay any retailer-based payments for this phone.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5, priced at $1,250: The 2023 Galaxy Z Fold5 (7/10, wired recommendation) shares many similarities with the newer Galaxy Z Fold6, although the front screen is not as wide and can be a bit annoying to use (the app will feel a little stressful). It's still a great, well-built phone, but you should avoid paying anything near the retail price. Waiting for sale.
OnePlus is open for $1,700: I love that OnePlus Open (7/10, Wired recommends) was sad when it debuted in 2023 and it was hard to see the company announced earlier this year that it canceled plans for its successor. You can no longer buy this phone from OnePlus or Amazon, but you can buy this phone at Best Buy or find the one you use. I don't think it's worth it today, so try to find it at a discounted price. The Open has the best multitasking system I've seen on my book folding phone. I turned on Gmail and X on the split screen and then slack hidden at the bottom - you can easily scroll down to see a full-size third app, or put all three apps next to each other. No wireless charging support. It also has only an IPX4 waterproof rating, so I would be very careful to use it near the pool. Given repairability and access to customer service – Google and Samsung have a wider repair network (at least in the US), and repairing a damaged OnePlus can be more troublesome.
Xiaomi Mix costs $899: Xiaomi’s first flip phone has a cute design, an excellent display inside and outside, long battery life and fast charging performance, and flagship-level performance, which makes a nice change, as flip phones usually have medium specs. It also has a solid dual-lens camera, opting for telephoto over super-speed shooting, which is more useful for most people. This software makes gatherings less; there is no IP rating and it is expensive, but I am happy with this flip phone. -Simon Hill
Xiaomi Mixed Fold 4 priced at $1,399: Xiaomi has only launched in China like its predecessor, and he promised to release a wider version for the Hybrid Fold 4 (although not in the US) at some point. It's no much thicker than the Honor Magic V3 above, and the screen creases are more noticeable when you open it. Performance and battery life are impeccable, and it supports fast wired and wireless charging. There is also a multi-functional left-handed camera. But that's not a huge upgrade to last year's Xiaomi Hybrid Fold 3.Simon Hill
Oppo finds N5 flip: You can think of it as the spiritual successor of OnePlus Open. (Both companies are owned by BBK Electronics.) Sadly, in the United States, the United Kingdom or Europe, it is not available. When it opens, it's the world's slimmest book folding style, only 3.6mm. The display is excellent, and it has the highest specifications like the inner part of the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, not to mention the 80-watt wired charge for a quick top-up. However, the camera isn't that great, and Oppo's software is still clumsy and off-road.
The Nubia Flip 5G is priced at $499 (£500): This super-curved flip-foldable front has a stylish circular screen. The Nubia Flip 5G (6/10 Wired Review) is the most affordable foldable we've seen, among other discounts on other models. Sadly, the front screen isn't very practical, and it's a noticeable average performer with limited processing power and battery life. The software is also outdated and we are concerned about Nubia's update policy. But for people who are keen to try foldable on a limited budget, Flip 5G is one approach. -Simon Hill
