Two-time big champion champion and LIV golf member received a special exemption from the U.S. PGA to compete in the PGA championship next week in North Carolina. Johnson's previous waiver was the second major champion of the year - his five-year pass in the Masters in 2020 - ended last year.

Johnson will be one of the 16 LIV golfers in the PGA Championship next week, the same as last year. Saudi Arabian-backed tours have not received official world golf ranking points from their events, making it increasingly difficult for its members to continue to win major championships.
After Byron Nelson entered their field in the CJ Cup, the US PGA automatically included the top 70 golfers. The organization then typically adds all golfers to the unqualified OWGR Top 100, all previous PGA Championship champions, winners of the last five major champions, winners of the past three player champions and the top 15 champions in the last year’s PGA Championship, and other champions, among other criteria to fill the 156-man field.
Johnson once ranked No. 1 in the world and ranked No. 751 in the world. Although he finished second in his back-to-back year in 2019 and 2020, he never won the PGA title.
Johnson will join LIV golfers Bryson DeChambeau, Sergio Garcia, Tyrrell Hatton, Patrick Reed, Cam Smith, Joaquín Niemann, Phil Mickelson, Tom McKibbin, Richard Bland, Dean Burmester, Dean Burmester, Brooks Koepka, Brooks Koepka, David Puig, David Puig, Jon Rahmm and John MarhMAHMAHMAHMARHMARHMAHMARHMAHMARKMAR HARMER, Garcia, McGibbin, Neiman and Pug also received special invitations from the US PGA.

Rickie Fowler also received an invitation to attend. Fowler won the 2012 Quail Hollow for his first professional PGA Tour, although fan favorites have won only once in the last six years. The US PGA allows all members from the 2023 Ryder Cup team to enter the game as long as they are in the top 100. Fowler is currently ranked 125th.
Tiger Woods is not in the wild next week as he is still recovering from a tear of Achilles tendon. He is expected to miss the rest of the season. John Daly won his second Wanamaker trophy in 1991 and he wasn't there either.
On the PGA Tour, there are still two attractions that remain open, reserved for the Truist champion and the winner of the Myrtle Beach Classic.
The PGA champion will begin on May 15. Xander Schauffele won DeChambeau in his first career championship victory last year, with a win.
