180 feet of human remains and ships found underwater in Alaska after a disappearance in a Texas state

Nearly a year after the U.S. Coast Guard suspends searching for one A missing family of four On board, they found the ship and human remains on the boat, officials said Wednesday.

The discovery was provided in April with three Alaska private companies, including one that used sonar devices to search underwater, to help find families from Texas, according to a statement released by the Alaska Department of Public Safety.

The department said earlier this month they found missing ships and human remains in 180 feet of water in Kachemak Bay near Homer.

Divers from the state were then able to recover three sets of remains from sunken ships during dives Tuesday and Wednesday.

The bodies have been taken to the state medical examiner's office for an autopsy and confirmed, according to the Public Safety Department. It didn't say how long it would take to identify the remains.

Missing families from Troy, Texas include Mary Maynard, 37, and David Maynard, 42, as well as sons, Colton, 11, and Brantley, 8, according to the statement.

The U.S. Coast Guard said at the time that a 28-foot-tall aluminum ship began carrying eight people on the water, and the search for homes was launched in August. The Coast Guard notified other ships in the situation area and a nearby boat rescued four people.

According to the state’s Public Safety Department, the Coast Guard searches for search and rescue personnel in Kachemak Bay and Alaska tried to use sonar equipment to find the home. But they failed, and by the next night the search had been paused.

According to Anchorage Daily News, Christi Wells, who was then representing Mary Maynard's parents, said the family loved spending time with friends and family and traveling. Mary Maynard is a travel nurse, and David Maynard stays at home with the kids and works in lawn care business, she said.

Cassandra Martin, a family friend from Texas, told CBS branch KWTX at the time that she was shocked by the news.

"It's hard to believe that this might even be true ... She and her husband and her boys are truly beloved members of our community," Martin told the station.

More than $21,000 was raised for the family's GoFundMe.

"Maynard has left a huge mark on many people, from the laughter they bring to us, the love and family connection they provide," Gofundme said. "The blank that will be forgotten is indescribable."
