17-year-old boy's tribute is charged for death in teenager on Scotland Beach | Scotland

A 17-year-old boy has been charged with the death of 16-year-old Kayden Moy, who died after a "targeted" attack on Scottish Beach.

Police were asked to report that a teenager was injured at Irvine Beach in North Ayrshire at around 6.45pm on Saturday.

Kayden, East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire, was taken to Crosshouse Hospital near Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire, but died in the early hours of Sunday.

The 17-year-old was arrested and later charged and was scheduled to appear in Kilmarnock Sheriff's Court on Tuesday.

The troops said the inquiry was in progress.

Kayden's family said in a statement to the media: "His parents and two younger brothers will miss Kayden very much.

“He is loved by so many people, and it is shown by the vast amount of heartfelt information we have received since our death.

“We want to thank everyone who has supported us over the past few days.”

DCI Campbell Jackson of the Scottish Police Major Investigation Team said: "Our ideas remain with Kayden's family during this very difficult time. The specially trained police officers are continuing to support Kayden's family.

“We think this is a targeted attack with no risk to the wider public.

“We have a dedicated team of officials working on this survey and I again ask anyone who may have information that may be helpful and has not yet come forward, please contact us.

"No matter how small it looks, it may be the key to our need. I want to thank the communities in Irvine and East Kilbride for their support so far."

Jim McMillan added: “It’s not only Irvine Beach on Saturday, but for Kayden’s family, friends and the wider community affected.

"The area will still have police presence in the area and will be on other patrols where needed. I urge anyone with questions or concerns to approach local officials - they are there to help."

Kayden is a student at Duncan Rigg High School in East Kilbride.

Principal Annette Alexander paid tribute to the teenager on behalf of the school.

She said: “We are deeply shocked and saddened by the sudden death of our former student, Kayden Moy.

"Kayden is a kind and caring young man full of character. He touched the lives of many people in our school community."

The 16-year-old was a youth player at the Booth AFC where people from the club were "destroyed" due to their deaths.

"Kayden played in our youth setup for several years and that hit everyone," the club said in a statement posted on social media.

The club has built the Gofundme attraction to honor the teenager, who has raised over £9,200.

A spokesman for the South Lanarkshire Council said: “This is a tragic event and we have deep sympathy for Kaden’s loved ones.

“We are very aware that this will have a greater impact on many people, including many of our students.”

Police said several people were believed to have been filming on their phones at the time of the incident and urged anyone with information or footage to step up as the investigation continues to investigate.

Detectives have set up a website where people can access forms, send information directly to the main investigative team, and maintain anonymity.
