Big Lots plans to reopen 132 stores in May as bankruptcy discount retailers work to rebuild their brand under new ownership.
The Ohio-based retailer reached in December after filing for bankruptcy and moving to a liquidation store last September. Last minute deal Acquisitioned by Gordon Brothers Retail Partners, a Boston-based asset consulting firm.
As part of the agreement, Variety Wholesalers acquired 200 to 400 large stores, a discount retailer, and in the United States, discount retailers with more than 400 stores continue to operate them under the Big Lots brand. At the time of sale, Big Lots had 869 stores.

"We are delighted to bring in another 132 large quantities of locations," Variety Wholesale CEO Lisa Seigies said in a statement. "The customer's response to new fresh stocks and huge deals are very positive."
Big Lots stores sell everyday items for homes, kitchens and pantry. The store reopening in May is scheduled to be divided into two stages in 14 states, with the highest number of openings, taking place in North Carolina, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
The location includes big cities and small towns, as part of the company's efforts to increase "accessibility to a wide range of customers," the variety show wholesaler said in a statement.
