Trump orders reopening of infamous demon prison

Donald Trump said he is directing his administration to reopen and expand Alcatraz, an island near the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.
“The United States has long been plagued by vicious, violent and recurring criminals,” President Trump said in a message on Sunday's Truth Social Network.
He said.
Leading Democrats said the proposal was “not a serious proposal.” The highest safety facility (also known as Rock) was closed in 1963 and is currently operating as a successful tourist site.
“Today, I am guiding the Bureau of Prisons with the Department of Justice, the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security to reopen the significantly expanded and rebuilt Alcatraz Island,” Trump wrote.
The prison will “accommodate the most cruel and violent criminals in America.”
President Trump has been fighting with the court for his policy that sends so-called gang members to a prison in El Salvador. There, in March, he sent a group of members of the Venezuelan gang. He also talked about sending “local criminals” to foreign prisons.
The Devils were originally Naval Defense Fort, that's Reconstructed as a military prison in the early 20th century. The Justice Department took over it in the 1930s and began committing criminals from the federal prison system. Among its famous prisoners are the infamous gangster Al Capone, Mickey Cohen and George “Machine Gun” Kelly.
The Prison is also known for its 1962 film Birdman, starring Burt Lancaster, about the convicted murderer Robert Stroud, who became interested in birds while serving his sentence on prison island and went on to become an expert ornithologist.
In 1979, the American biographical prison drama escaped from Alcatraz Island and 1962 prisoners escaped, with Clint Eastwood starring Ringeader Frank Morris.
It is also home to the 1996 film The Rock starring Sean Connery and Nicolas Cage, which tells the story of a former SAS captain and FBI chemist who saved hostages from Alcatraz.

According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons website, the prison is closed because it is too expensive. The cost of operating is nearly three times that of any other federal prison, mainly due to its island location.
Professor Gabriel Jack Chin of the University of California Davis Law School told the BBC that it would take a lot of money to put Alcatraz into a normal prison.
Chin said the federal prison system in existing prisons is actually down about 25% from its peak population, with “a lot of empty beds.” “So, is it necessary to have a new one.”
Chin added that Alcatraz “has been the reputation of a strong prison” and Trump is trying to convey a message that his administration will have a tough attitude towards crime.
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a California Democrat, who included Alcatraz, said the proposal was not “serious” while Democratic National Sen. Scott Wiener called the idea “deeply” privately owned on Instagram Post and “an attack on the law.”
