The Blackhawks dropped crazy game with Blues; lost a 6-5 gunfight
New Year's Eve The Chicago Blackhawks were severely beaten at St. Louis Blues at Wrigley Field during the Winter Classic. The loss is as bad as the losses they have encountered on the national stage, and the entire hockey world is watching.
On Saturday night, the Blackhawks had a chance to avenge the Blues. Each team had a rematch in St. Louis' excellent winter classic sweater, which was a great choice.
This is a great start for Chicago. After defeating the Predators on Friday night, they have the perfect first phase to keep the momentum going.
Craig Smith and Ryan Donato were 38 seconds apart, giving Chicago a 2-0 lead. For Donato, his 19th goal of the season has expanded his incredible hit streak. It is an understatement to say that he is hotter than grilling.
The second phase of things head south to Chicago. They won 17-3 and the Blues scored three unresolved goals. After their first phase, it was down 3-2 at 3-2.
At least, this is usually frustrating. Despite the bad middle frame, the Blackhawks continued to play hard. When Alec Martinez came from a feed from Teuvo Teravainen, the match tied with 3 points.
Less than a minute later, Cam Fowler (one of the stars of the Winter Classic) scored to put his team back in the lead. Shockingly, it took the Blackhawks two minutes to tie it up again. Teuvo Teravainen scored the game's goal.
The two teams continued to play hard and exchanged goals again. Ilya Mikheyev and Robert Thomas are two goalscorers for their respective teams in this sequence.
Of course, this incredible game takes more time to determine the winner. There is no decisive score in overtime, and a gunfight is required.
The Blackhawks and Bruce finished one of the best games of the season at Radek Faksa, in favor of Blues. The NHL hopes the Winter Classic will be played like this one. The Blackhawks still lost in the end, but this time they played a closer game.
One thing to note from this game is that the Blackhawks continue to play hard after the second phase. They have bad times this season (many times) and usually can’t recover. This time, they rebounded and stayed in the game.
Now, the Blackhawks have completed two weeks. The league will face off against four countries starting next week in Montreal. Teuvo Teravainen is the sole representative of Chicago and will play for Finland. When Chicago returns, it will face Ohio's Columbus Blue Jacket on February 22.
