Red Sox'Walker Buehler (shoulder) hits the list of injured; rookie will spin in place of him

BOSTON – Red Sox starter Walker Buehler doesn't seem to have a serious shoulder injury, but that doesn't stop the team from temporarily putting him on the injured roster.

According to the team, Buller was placed on the IL for 15 days before his match against right shoulder capsule on Friday. The correct hunter Dobbins is summoned in his position. Buehler, who was scheduled to pitch in Sox's series opener against the twins, returned home early from Toronto for a test as he hadn't rebounded since Cleveland's last Saturday. The Red Sox's hopeful Buehler can avoid a long absence.

“He’s going to Illinois,” Cora said. “We don't think it's that serious. I missed two starts and hopefully I can come back once it's over.”

According to Cora, the plan is to keep Buehler throwing and work to speed up his return. The Red Sox changed his IL job to April 29, making it eligible to return as early as May 14.

“He'll be fine,” Cora said. “We will talk about it, but I’m not too worried.

Brayan Bello started the day on Friday in lieu of Buehler, opening for the Red Sox. The plan was to get Dobbins to start this, as sources earlier in the day said Dobbins was told that he would be called from Triple-A and Pitch. Garrett Crochet will pitch on Sunday's Twins and the Red Sox, who have two days off for 11 days between May 5 and May 15, will be able to manipulate their rotation from there.

Dobbins has a 2.45 ERA while recording 11-inning strikeouts in his first two major league games, which will be the main replacement for Buehler. The 25-year-old Righty was caught on Thursday during an outing in Worcester for several days. The Red Sox also has left-handed Sean Newcomb, who has turned to bullpen in recent days as another rotation padding option. Righty Richard Fitts is still on the injured list but is thrown on the flat ground from 120 feet and it is going well.

Buehler signed a one-year, $21.05 million contract throughout the winter, with a 4-1 record and a 4.28 ERA in his first six games, wearing the Red Sox uniform. After two difficult starts to his year, the former basketball player has performed well in the last four games, winning 2.59 ERAs in four Red Sox wins. In Cleveland on Saturday, Buller made three runs on seven shots in six innings. He hit three.

Buehler's shoulder problem is the latest illness in a series of arm injuries throughout his career. Along with Los Angeles, Buehler returned in May last year after his second Tommy John surgery in August 2022, making him missed the entire 2023 season. His first Tommy John operation was in 2015.
