Queensland woman charged in hospital for murder death of daughter | Australian News

The Queensland prime minister said a comprehensive investigation into the death of a Bondberg mother accused of fatally stabbing her three-year-old daughter.

Queensland police confirmed that Lauren Ingrid Flanigan, 32, died at the hospital on Sunday and found no response in her cell at the Brisbane Women’s Correctional Centre.

Flanigan suffered a medical emergency in her cell on Friday night and was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

Prime Minister David Crisafulli said “there is indeed a need to answer questions” and promised a “comprehensive and thorough investigation.”

“I think it’s important that we don’t brush it under the carpet,” he said.

“This incident proves that some explanation is needed and we should attribute it to everyone involved, the people who work in the facilities, the families of those who have tragically lost their lives to the bottom,” he said.

Crisafulli said he “confirmed” that he would conduct a crown investigation into the detained deaths.

Flanigan was held until his next court appearance in July after being charged with murder a week ago.

Neighbors called Zero after seeing a young child unresponsive in the front yard of the Moore Park Beach house north of Bandaberg at around 4.45 p.m.

When emergency services arrived, they found a three-year-old girl, identified as Frannigan's daughter, Sophia Rose, with several wounds. She died at the scene.

At the time, two other one- and two-year-olds were also on the property, but were not injured.

Both are taking care of their father.

So far, Sophia Rose's father and siblings have raised $55,000.

Family friend Connor Thompson, who organized the fundraiser, remembers Sophia Rose as a cute kid with infectious laughter that can light up the room.

The fundraising event said: “Her smile is like a beam of sunshine, and her heart is pure and golden.”

“Although she has been here for a short time, the love she gives and the joy she shares will always be with us.”
