Nat Sciver-Brunt: The girl born in Tokyo who became the captain of England
“I first met Natalie while working at Loughborough,” said former fast bowler Katherine. “She is on a trial at the National Cricket Show Centre there.
“Because her elbows are super stretched.
Katherine and Nat became roommates and business partners. They invested in a property and rented it to England teammates Amy Jones, Beth Langston and Fran Wilson. The group was very nervous and other players nicknamed them “Little Mix”.
The rest may see potential relationship development, and Catherine took some time.
“It's not that we want to hide anything from anyone, it's just that I and Nat don't know either,” Katherine said. “We were and are still so close that I didn't want to mess with anything. It's me who backed off.
“One day, I realized she was the best thing I’ve ever had.”
Nat and Katherine reveal their relationship, participation and ultimate marriage. Last year, Nat was treated with eggs and they announced the birth of Theo, which Katherine carried in April.
“We think it’s important to touch on topics that certain people will be helpful,” Catherine said. “We cover a lot of difficult foundations in the public eye, engage in international movements, become gay, become women.
“We tick a lot of boxes that touch the areas people may struggle with. If we can help people feel uncomfortable, we feel, why not?”
With two huge life events – becoming parents and becoming captain of England – there was a simultaneous struggle.
Katherine was able to travel with Nat on the Winter Tour in England, but in February and March, she was too pregnant to compete in the Women's Premier League (WPL). Katherine spent some time in the hospital, and Nat became the leading runner and player in the tournament in India. If Katherine starts working, Nat won't go home in time.
Nat had an initial plan to miss the West Indies series, but after England fired Heather Knight, they needed a captain.
“Looking at the WPL and how she handles our progress, it shows me that she will be fine as the captain of England,” Katherine said.
“We know she stays calm in the worst case, calculates and is able to perform best in her best performance. Because that's all, if anyone does the job, it's Nat.”
And Catherine?
“I'll watch it,” she said. “I'm distracted, good. I'm going to make sure Theo sees the first ball, so I can tell him he's seeing his mom's first game as captain England.”
