Multiple representative shots, at least one person died during traffic stop in Georgia
A Columbia County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) deputy was shot and another Columbia County Sheriff’s Office shot in a traffic stop shooting in Evans, Georgia on Saturday afternoon.
CCSO Major Steve Morris told Fox News Digital that two deputies were shot and killed, one of them died, but they have not released the names of the deputies involved.

Morris said the suspect was identified as James Black Montgomery.
No arrests were made as of 9:30 p.m., but Morris told Fox News Montgomery “is no longer a threat.”

Montgomery was charged with aggravated assault in December 2022, according to records from a Columbia County Court. Records show that he was later relieved.

He is allegedly charged with murder after a fire
Evans, Georgia, is located about 10 miles northwest of Augusta – Augusta National Golf Club and Masters of the Year.
Augusta Mayor Garnett Johnson posted his condolences on Facebook Saturday night.
“Heart-breaking, pray for the Columbia County Sheriff's Office and our neighbors in Columbia County,” Johnson wrote. “Our prayers are with the families of the fallen sheriff's office and with all those who feel sad in the loss of sorrow. We respect their sacrifices and pray for the difficult days ahead.”
Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr shared the latest news on X that he is still waiting for the injury of the second deputy.
“Anyone willing to wear uniforms every day in an unsafe job, someone waiting for them to come home at the end of the shift deserves our unwavering support and ongoing appreciation,” Carl wrote in the post. “We join in prayer for this fallen deputy, his fellow countrymen, and all those who serve him.”

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office also reportedly did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.
According to the Georgia Patrol, the CCSO is currently the main investigative agency.
