“Minecraft” hit $816 million in box office, and “Sinner” exceeded $161 million
Warner Bros. dominated the box office in April as Minecraft Movie and Sinner continued to break expectations.
On the weekend, “Minecraft” raised $37.8 million overseas and $60.5 million worldwide on its fourth weekend of release. Meanwhile, the “Sinner” increased by $13.5 million internationally and $58.5 million globally in its sophomore outing. For the second straight weekend, Warners ranked No. 1 and 2 in the international, domestic and global box office rankings. It's a particularly promising reversal in fate, as the studio had a tough start to 2025, Robert de Niro's The Alto Knights and Bong Joon Ho and Robert Pattinson's “Mickey 17” (and last year after the end of Misfire “Joker” Joker: folie folie -deux).
“Minecraft Movies” has grossed $436.6 million and $816 million worldwide, ranking as the largest Hollywood movie of the year to date. The highest foreign markets include the UK ($67.1 million), Germany ($33.7 million), Australia ($31.8 million) and Mexico ($28.4 million).
So far, “Sinner” has created $39.1 million worldwide with a production budget of $90 million worldwide, and $161.6 worldwide. The R-rated horror movie didn't resonate at the overseas box office, although it remained stable, with ticket sales down 14% compared to last weekend. In North America, “The Sinner” earned a huge $45 million bonus on his second outing, a rare film that almost matched its sophomore weekend.
Director Ryan Coogler's “Sinner” filmed with an IMAX camera is a power on the advanced screen. In IMAX alone, the film increased its global box office by $12.3 million over the weekend, boosting its overall box office to $20.6 million. These ticket sales account for 19% of the movie's overall gross profit margin.
“'Sinners' is taking the aura of a must-see cultural phenomenon, and the Imax screen's leadership approach reminiscent of the “Oppenheimer” and “Dune: Dune: Part Two: Part Two” we saw in recent movie events recently,” said Ceo Rich Gelfond of Imax. “Ryan Coogler obviously nailed the spirit of the times with this movie.”
Elsewhere, Disney proved that the troops remained strong in Star Wars: Episode 3 – Revenge of the Sith. The Space Opera prequel returns to the 20th anniversary of the theater, making $17 million from 34 territories including Germany ($4.6 million), the United Kingdom ($2.3 million) and Mexico ($1.7 million). “The Revenge of the Sith” also charged $25.2 million for domestic weekends, totaling $42 million.
