McCormick 'optimistic' about working with Fetterman to find 'common ground'
Pennsylvania Republican Sen. Dave McCormick expressed “optimism” about working with Democratic colleague Sen. John Fetterman to resolve the issue and bring a glimmer of bipartisan hope to Congress.
The freshman senator sat down with Fox News' Shannon Bream on “Fox News Sunday” to discuss a slew of headlines — first phase of Israel-Hamas ceasefire, TikTok shutdown and his willingness to work with Fetterman. At times, he has disagreed with his party on issues such as border security and support for Israel.
“I was elected not just to represent Republicans. I was elected to represent every Pennsylvanian,” McCormick said. “I think that's how he feels, so even though we're from different political parties, we have a responsibility to help Pennsylvania. He's focused on working families. I'm focused on working families. We thought we could find some common ground as he sounded out on Israel. raised an extremely strong voice against anti-Semitism.”

“We're going to disagree on some things, but we're going to agree and we're going to focus on things that we can work on together, and I think he recognizes something that a lot of Democrats haven't, which is policy with President Biden and his The political party has failed the American people and we have a mission of change, and I think Senator Fetterman at least takes some of that and says, 'Hey, how can I be a part of that change?'”
McCormick, Fetterman and their wives split this month, burying the hatchet and finding common ground on important issues.
In a Jan. 9 post about the meeting, Fetterman shared a photo of himself with McCormick and his wife, captioning it: “2 guys + 2 better halves + two Party Cooperation + 67 Counties = A Stronger Pennsylvania.”

McCormick was sworn in earlier this month to replace longtime Democratic Sen. Bob Casey, whom he narrowly defeated in the Nov. 5 election.
In the process, Fetterman earned the title of senior senator of the Keystone State.
