On the Jan. 13 episode of “The Daily Show,” Jon Stewart discussed the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles and Republican lawmakers' desire to “attach strings” to incoming relief funds.

Stewart started on a positive note, celebrating “incredible moments of human compassion and kindness” that emerged from the Los Angeles fires, despite the “tragedy and sadness” that have plagued the Star City since the Jan. 7 Pacific Palisades fire. Break out first.

“Neighbors are looking out for each other, and charitable donations have been pouring into Go Fund Me from around the world,” Stewart said. “(But) mostly it’s the tireless and heroic actions of California-area firefighters, some of whom are inmates with incredible bravery and Fight with tenacity.”

Stewart stressed that some of the first responders were “rescue workers from abroad.” The expert took the opportunity to slam conservatives and call for stricter border policies.

“(Los Angeles receives) rescuers from Mexico! Mexico!” Stewart exclaimed. “Biden, your open borders be damned!”

After noting the benefit, Stewart went on the offensive, targeting several Republican lawmakers who wanted to attach “I told you so” policies to disaster relief funding. A video played showed some congressional Republicans saying, “I think there will be strings attached to the funds that are ultimately approved,” and “Honestly,[California]doesn't deserve anything unless they show us they're going to make some changes. ”

“That's mental illness. There's something wrong with you,” Stewart said. “Here's the thing, I could do a 'Daily Show' thing and berate all the right-wing congressmen and senators who are demanding conditions on disaster aid when their states are in jeopardy and have absolutely the opposite view.”

Stewart then played a short clip of a red state senator asking the government to “do whatever it takes” to help the local disaster. But Stewart cut off the clip, saying: “Shut the fuck up… Red states are always the tragic victims of circumstances beyond their control, and Democrats always vote for their aid. And blue state disasters are their moral and Policy flaws. What message will it send if we help blue state survivors?”
