Singer Jessie J said she was diagnosed with early breast cancer.
The 37-year-old star revealed her diagnosis on Instagram, and she is preparing for surgery after she plans to perform at a small festival dance at London's Wembley Stadium later this month.
The price tag singer noted that she has been “in and out tests” lately.
“Cancer will suck in any form, but I stick to the word 'early',” she said in the video message.
“It's a very dramatic way to get a breast work,” she joked.
“After the summer ball, I’m going to disappear some for surgery and I’m going to come back with a lot of tits and more music.”
'I need a hug'
The Essex Singer announced Tuesday as one of the actions of the bill on Radio 2 at Park Music Festival on September 2, adding that she is publicly diagnosed to help her handle it and show solidarity with others experiencing something similar.
“I just want to open up and share it,” she continued. “One, because I'm selfish, I'm not talking about it enough. I'm not dealing with it because I'm working hard.”
“I also know how much of the past has shared that helped me with other people giving me love and support and their own stories. I’m an open book.
“It broke my heart, a lot of people have gone through so much, and worse – that’s the point that killed me.”
The performer, who gave birth to a son in 2023, went on to say the diagnosis gave her “incredible perspective”.
“But honestly, I need to deal with it and talk about it, I need a hug,” she told fans.
“You love me during my good times and hard times. I don't want this to be different from me.”
TV and radio host Gaby Roslin answered in the comments, providing “so much love and a huge hug.”
Pop star Rita Ora replied: “You are my favorite person, I’m praying for you, you already know.
“My mother has it, I know the surgery, any treatment for this is mentally tough, so I'm here to serve you. x.”
Support was also provided by the likes of Leona Lewis, Rochelle and Marvin Humes and Wretch 32.
Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women in the UK.
“It's important to check your breasts regularly so you know what is to you,” the NHS website says.
“This makes it easier to notice any changes in breast size, appearance or feeling.”
Jessie J has had health problems throughout her life, was diagnosed with a heart condition as a teenager and then got into trouble in 2020 due to Meniere's illness.
Last year, she revealed she had been diagnosed with ADHD and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
“Not the right time”
The singer's latest announcement comes after she recently told BBC Radio 2 breakfast show host Scott Mills, who turned down a main Broadway role, playing Sally Bowles in a cabaret show.
“I've recently played a huge role on Broadway, but I refused because that wasn't the right time,” she explained. “My son is too young to do it.”
She highlighted her background and training in the Musical Theater and added: “I will do it at some point, and it’s an amazing audition process and I’m proud of myself for getting it.”
