Dior appoints Jonathan Anderson as sole creative director | Dior
Jonathan Anderson was announced as the first creative director of Dior men's, women's and high-end fashion collections and ultimately speculated on the future of luxury brands.
The 40-year-old rugby player's son, from Delhi County, Northern Ireland, will be the designer who has taken full control of the fashion house since Christian Dior.
Dior's chairman and CEO Delphine Arnault described Anderson as “the most talented designer of his generation.” He has long been compared to fashion insider Karl Lagerfeld.
Anderson said: “It’s an honor to join Dior House as Creative Director for the Women and Men’s Series. I’ve always been inspired by the home’s long history, its depth and empathy.
“I look forward to working with the Legendary Studio to create the next chapter of this incredible story. I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to Delphine Arnault and Bernard Arnault (LVMH CEO) for their trust and loyalty over the years.”
The meaning of this moment is reflected in the unprecedented moves of the famous house, which is the first time that the high fashion show has been skipped in July 78 history.
It has been confirmed in April that Anderson will become the artistic director of men's clothing, and he will introduce his first collection this month. He will debut his major women's collection later this year.
“This is the first time for Christian Dior Couture as Creative Director Monsieur Dior Monsieur Dior will be committed to all women, men and haute couture collections that further enhance its global creativity,” Dior said in an Instagram statement.
Anderson's arrival has always been the theme of front row gossip. Dior Womenswear’s outgoing creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri was still officially in the role of her bow at the end of her performance in Rome last week.
His rise reflects the changing view of fashion’s perspective on him. In a short time, he transformed from a well-received but left-hand talent to a power center in the global fashion industry.
But it was Anderson's tempting success with the formerly sleepy Spanish handbag brand Loewe, which prompted billionaire LVMH boss Bernard Arnault to award him with the highest award.
The decision of the young designer who decided to have full control was Dior's dice, which was often safe since John Galliano left in 2011.

French court ruled that Galliano was sentenced to a moratorium of €6,000 (£5,060) in a moratorium on Galliano's anti-Semitic remark later that year.
In 2023, Anderson produced Rihanna's outfit to announce her pregnancy during the Super Bowl halftime show, as well as the 2024 Metropolitan grand dress by Ariana Grande.
He also created the patchwork cardigan worn by Harry Styles, which was all the rage and was attracted to the Victoria and Albert Museum fashion collection this year.
“I strongly believe that he will bring a creative and modern vision to our homes, inspired by Mr. Dior's mythical story and the code he created,” Delphine Arnault said.
